It seems like I am seeing shad trailers on spinnerbaits recently.....any thoughts or pros and cons?
Would you still use a trailer hook if you use a soft plastic trailer?

I throw on a little paddle tail swim bait as a trailer when just the spinner bait isn't getting them. Usually after I put one on they bite. I just retrieve it fast enough for the paddle tail to kick.

I use War Eagle spinner baits exclusively and don't use a trailer. They extend part of the skirt as a trailer and it undulates great. Also I always use a trailer hook.

Extended shank hooks on my spinner baits. No trailer hook needed. I have used the discontinued Stanley Pro Trailer forever. Just can't find them any more. Only have a few left to go on special orders. Lurepartsonline has one very similar and worked great for us in Mexico this Spring. Of course they are out of the best color for the shad spinner baits. They are located under Jig Tail Trailers in the 4" size. White, Watermelon/Red and Pumpkin/Green & Black with glitter are good for most of the spinner color combinations. The Clear Blue Illusion is the best one; but sold out.

Twin curl tail grub in white or clear with blue flakes. I also use a composite rod and mono for spinnerbaits. The fish either gets it all the way in their mouth or miss it altogether. I haven't missed a spinnerbait fish since going back to composite rod and mono exclusively for spinnerbaits.
Grateful for every sunrise and sunset I get to witness. - Jason

Makes the lure a little more weedless, slows the fall, and gives it more secondary action on the pause. Also feel that fish will hold on longer if they bite into a soft trailer instead of a metal hook

White Rage Tail twin tail grub. Use it on buzz baits and spinners. ALWAYS have a small Stinger on the baits too.

I haven't missed a spinnerbait fish since going back to composite rod and mono exclusively for spinnerbaits. Been useing a 7 ft crankin stick medium heavy with great success. Just seen new crankin stick offers a heavy action 7 ft thinking about trying one. Been useing McCoys copoly . J D
