Hey BoPro,

Just curious, on average how long does it take to land one of those big Northern Pike on fly rod?

On my Ontario (Quetico) canoe trips tried to catch the big smallmouth for sport, walleye for dinner, and avoided hooking up with the big pike because they'd tear up equipment and eat up a lot of fishing time landing/releasing them.

Would love to be there with low 40's morning temperatures right now. Thanks for the great pictures.

@ GLBoutdoors

I was using a 9 wt rod, so I was able to horse them a bit. Probably about 2-5 minutes. However, I did fight a 40+ for a while until it broke my 18 lb wire leader. Pike generally, don't take long runs, however, the 35 inch + were feisty, and made a few good runs once I got them near boat. I didn't use a net, but it definitely would have made landing them a bit quicker.

There is no place like Ontario. The scenery and wildlife is unreal. Fishing is fantastic too. Been going since the early 1990s.
