When picking a baitcast reel for swimbait use, what are the main factors to consider?

A) Gear Ratio (Slower is easier on gear fatigue?)

B) Drag Capacity (Effect with regards to bigger lures?)

C) Line Capacity - One could use braided line to compensate on line capacity.

I ask this question because constantly reeling 5 - 6 oz lures would seem to cause fatigue on the gears over time.
Would a Garcia 5500C3 be a good option? Its drag and gear ratio are similar to a Calcutta 400.

Thanks

Line capacity first and foremost for me. For bigger swimbaits a 300 or 400 size real. 6.2 year ratio is what I like. The c3 if I remember right is probably to small of a real. But it's been years since I used one. I have a Calcutta 400 and a quantum exo 300 I use depending on lures.

Best reel you can get for that work is a shimano curado 300e. Not too big or uncomfortable to throw sb’s all day with.

I have a Curado that I bought back in 1999-2000.

I am not sure what particular Curado model it would be.

I may be a little different than most, but I would go with REEL COMFORT first. If you are fishing a reel that is not comfortable, you won't fish it as long or as easy, either. THAT is what I pick my reels with, like if you hvae smaller hands, line capacity may be a 2ndy issue, don't know. Hope this helps. Tight lines, keep safe and good luck.

A Garcia Ambassadeur 5500C3 can hold around 130 yards of 20lb mono and it has a 15lb drag.

Based on the specs it should be fine.

If I can get away with a smaller reel for the heavier lures then I may go that route.

Perhaps what I should be asking is do you make an exception on a reel for use with swimbaits or just the rod given the lure weight?

Regards,

I use a Revo Winch but have also used a Lews BB1. Round reels are just to uncomfortable for me.

I just went through this after chunking big baits on inadequate equipment for a long time. Looked at most everything in the 300 size $150 to $300 range tranx, lexa, etc. I ended up with a 300e and a dobyns 806hsb. I picked up a fresh serviced reel off ebay and the rod used on dobyn's site and i'm in the whole setup <$400. No regrets

Cardiff 300, Lexa 300 or if you want to spend more Curado 300. All will get it done.

Daiwa Luna in the 253 size is what I use. Not ridiculously big but absolutely more than enough for the 5-6oz lures you are talking about. 5:1 ratio and heavy duty gears for anything you will throw. I have it on a Dobyns Fury 795sb for a really nice top of the line combo at a very affordable price. Carlos from Rivera Tackle here on the TFF gave me a better deal on the reel than I could get anywhere. https://www.riveratackle.com/ http://www.daiwa.com/us/contents/reels/td_luna/index.html

To me, the single most important factor when choosing a reel for swimbait use, is that it can be used for every other kind of bait use too.
