So I went to RR today and had no problem finding some of the biggest schools of sandies that I have ever found on my own. My issue is that I had a hard time getting them to bite. I tried a mepps 2, a spoon with a jig 2 feet above it, a crankbait and a couple other random lures and only managed to catch a dozen or so fish. What am I doing wrong? Do you use a particular lure or presentation. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

Be honest color is not near as important as size.

4-6 pound test and you are probably right shadboy, the ones I cleaned had some pretty big shad in them. At least the ones that had shad in them did. Maybe I need a bigger bait/ presentation. Any recommendations on that?

Yesterday was my first time on Ray Roberts. We got on top of some and did pretty good with slabs. Color didn't or type didn't seem to matter.
Good luck.

I catch them all the time on 3/4 to 7/8 slabs and spoons in silver-blue or chartreuse-orange using 12lb fluorocarbon. When jigging for fish on or near the bottom I work the lure aggressively and snap it pretty hard, when casting for suspended fish or fish near the surface I retrieve very fast.
Give Bomber and War Eagle slabs and spoons a look. They work well for me.
