needing a new trolling motor and cant decide between a x5 or a fortrex. what are the pros and cons of both? itll be an 80lb either way.

edit: at the moment unless someone is selling a used ultrex its out of the picture

I opted for a Ultrex, best money I ever spent.

Ultrex with Spot-Lock with Jog: Spot-Lock will hold you in place with unparalleled GPS accuracy. Available on i-Pilot GPS system that is pre-installed, Spot-Lock gives you the power to stay right on top of any productive fishing spot, without touching your trolling motor. With the included heading sensor, you can use Jog to move your Spot-Lock location five feet in any direction. Activate Spot-Lock from the i-Pilot remote or Humminbird fish finder

None of the above. I would not spend money on any unless it had spot lock and will link to depthfinders. I waited a long time to get an Xi5 due to the cost and the fact that I already had a wireless powerdrive (No spot lock) but once I finally took the plunge I wished that I had done it much sooner! I would get something low cost for now till you can save up to get the more expensive motor.

Fortrex. Better mount, lift assist, bow guard, spring loaded shaft, etc.

Just the best trolling motors made.

They are expensive but my boat is paid for and I do most of the maintenance on it and I don't buy $300 rod and reels so I splurged a little. Really has been a " game changer " for me. Sorry, couldn't pass up the chance to say that.

I'm sure you've done some research.
Fortrex of course!!
I considered an Ultrex but after doing research, I'll wait till the bugs are
worked out.

super time to buy either, with everyone upgrading to an Ultrex.

if you fish in heavy grass and/or heavy timber i would opt for the fortrex. Otherwise go with the best deal.

Ive seen super deals on used fortrex. My x5 has been a good motor. I was in your dilemma a few years ago.the fortrex is a better unit.

If you fish big open water and in the wind mostly then the spot lock, I don’t and have the Fortrex for me the best.
