Hi. I am looking at purchasing a Ranger. It has a 2011 Mercury OptiMax 150 HP. I do not have any experience with this motor. I would really appreciate your input on this particular 2011 motor. Thank you in advance.

I have an 06 opti and I love it. It's been extremely reliable and easy to maintain, although loud (2-stroke). the etec and the 4-stroke guys are about tell you different.. it's all about what you want!

They are good motors but grab your tail when needing other than routine maintenance. Compressors, fuel rail cleaning and lower units.

I have a 2006 200 and mine is very quiet but before this motor I had a 175 Blackmax with polished heads and a 200 exhaust tuner. That motor was far and away louder that my Optimax. I could tell just by listening to it idle if it was running right. With the Optimax I have to turn my head some times to make sure it is running. Optimax is good on the gas too.
