Just started fishing the whopper plopper and have had some success. Seems like I have had bad luck losing some of the larger fish, not necessarily throwing them while jumping just coming unbuttoned. Just wondering if any of you do anything to help out the lost to landing ratio. Throwing on braid, with a mh rod. Thanks.....

I've had the most luck with this lure just throwin' out there and reelin' it in. The sound is perfect, and the action is fine.

are you setting the hook like with a frog or just reel / lean into them like a crankbait bite?

I switched out hooks to owner stingers what hooks have you found to keep the weight of the lure balanced. Most I've seen are way to thin, and when I swap them, the lure twists because ghe weight to keep the lure upright is gone.

I throw 30# braid on a 7' medium action rod. I back off the drag on my reel and when you get bit, set the hook with a slight hesitation similar to a frog bite. the medium action rod is forgiving when the fish surges on you and then the drag will slip to keep from pulling the hooks out.

If around grass or stumps xtra-heavy rod, 55 pd braid with no problems. Usually aggressive bite normally set them self.

Use mono. +1 on switching to Mono, you need the stretch for the treble hooks.
