I think this is the most colorful bream I've ever caught. I tried to get the colors, the bottom is crimson red.. and the face was bright blue, really beautiful..he/she was released to strut around...

Adult Longear. The most colorful fish in South Texas! Just my opinion. Side Note: They are really showing off their colors this time of year.

Longear are the most colorful fish in the sunfish family! Great fighters for their size. They are a blast to catch on ultralight tackle. They are very aggressive fish. I call them the Diamonds of South Texas!

Yep...these are the most colorful sunfish around here, but I think the pumpkin seed is the most colorful overall. Unfortunately, the pumpkinseed is a north eastern fish from the research I have done. Does anyone know if pumpkin seed exist in Texas and if not...why ?

One of my favorites. Caught them in North Texas, East Texas, Central Texas, West Texas, or basically any place that has a creek or river. Depending on region, colors vary quite a bit. I don't mean to hijack your thread, but thought sharing pics from different regions would be fun. Urban Dallas Creek Paluxy Neches Onion Blanco Nueces Vogey- Pumpkinseed are not native to TX waters, but have been stocked for forage in some privately managed Bass lakes. I looked thru my field guides for Arkansas and Oklahoma, neither had Pumpkinseeds in the Index. Though I have heard Arkansas has a bunch, I have not caught one up there yet.

Fitz, no problem, Its amazing to me that 'bream' more so than other species have such vivid colors. Leads me to believe that fish can really see colors,.. All other fish I catch are all ho-hum in the colors department. Crappie, Bass, Catfish are all kind of blah compared to bream. I always tell my wife if Bream would grow to 15 pounds, they would be the best fish in the lake to chase...

You couldn't swim in the water with 15lbers thats for sure. Bye Bye toes and fingers.
I wonder in a hypothetical, if sunfish grew to Largemouth size, what would be the more popular game fish? I'm going with Sunfish.

10" Longear is absurd. I would need a cigarette after catching that and I don't smoke.
