Took out a friend one last time before he moves. Got on the lake around 2 pm, fishing started slow but picked up at least a couple everywhere except the dam where nothing was happening. Had fished a spot a couple of weeks ago but my setup and positioning then was based on a shallow bite so only caught a couple then. Setup for a deeper bite around 7 and game was on. Caught 35 in one spot until dark.

Got some sleep and we started back up around 5 am. Went back to spot and caught 30 more, over half in the morning were on swim bait the rest TR worms. Total for trip 100 bass, 58 on 9th and 42 on 10th, off the water by lunch. Could have caught more but my friend forgot about the banana curse and the bite severely slowed after that.

Biggest of trip.

Nice job. Fayette is about finding the fish, but once you find them; hang on!

One 10-pounder is better than ten 1-pounders; but 100 1-pounders is ok too!

Awesome report, so glad you guys found the fish and had a great time. I guess this is why I like to fish this lake so much. I know it doesn't take a lot of skill, but I only fun fish these days so going to this lake allows me to catch fish in short time frame and go home satisfied. When the skin on my thumb is tore up and my belly is sore from fighting fish, I call it a good day. Fayette is closer to my house than most so it makes since to fish it often.

To show how much everything plays into catching. We were using what we thought was the same swim bait but my friend wasnt gertting any bites while I was. We had subtle equipment differences. He was using braid with no leader, same bait but bigger, and smaller jig head. After he changed to mono (I was using fluorocarbon coated clear) and matched my bait he started to get bit.

I had a very similar experience throwing a larger worm on Carolina rig. My friend had a 4" worm with the same setup; he tore them up while I enjoyed casting. I switched to a smaller bait after he caught 4, and hooked up too. If I had been alone or with somebody throwing something different, we would have left after 30 minutes thinking the fish weren't around.

It's all about presentation. Small plastic, use lighter weight. Square bill crank doesn't work, switch to round bill. You got a listen to the fish and keep changing up till you find what they are looking for. I have what I call my go to baits and I try to figure it out from there. There are so many different ways to fish artificial baits. I've seen guys pump a rattle trap along the bottom like you would plastic and catch fish. You never know till you try it. The other day I was jigging a T/R plastic set up and hooking up pretty regular. You just never know, heck I have seen some pretty crazy things work. I had a guy once that used a brush hog as a trailer on his T/R plastic and they were tearing that thing up. Oh well, guess that's fishing.....
