Alright. I hear people talking about how they used to throw this, or that. Why do you quit throwing something that works? If an h&h spinnerbait worked 20 years ago, what happend?

Much better mousetraps these days. Plus, on heavily pressured lakes like Fork, fish get on something and see so much of it in a short period of time they learn to avoid that bait, color, presentation, etc. With the exception of reaction strikes.

When I was a teenager I threw one of 3 baits 99% of the time. Weightless Ringfry, #3 mepps aglia or a bomber long A Jerkbait. I haven't thrown a single one of those baits in probably 3 years. and before then they all got phased out slowly... eeks

For me it is because I start to catch them on other baits.

Used to fish a spinnerbait all the time. Once I started throwing a chatterbait and a squarebill more I just kind of quit throwing a spinnerbait.

What fouzman said, That's why I still have my dad's old lucky 13, Zara Spooks, Devil horse ect. when you hear everyone jumping on the latest marketing bandwagon and hammering a lake with the same thing just give it a little while and then pick back up those old baits and techniques, been killin'em all spring fishing my old Wiggle Warts and Spinnerbaits

I still catch a ton of pre-spawners on a Long A. But it's a long ago discontinued color.

Fish are smart. They learn the lures and pass the knowledge on during the fry guarding stage. We only catch the dumb ones.

I have an old crankbait I call Wildthang thats chrome and pink with a chartreuse stripe that on somedays will just flat out catch'em and it seems like the clearer the water and brighter the sun the better they like it
I love to fish a Long A all winter and early spring , especially on rocky points when the big ones are up shallow sunning

Here's another one a lot of younger folks have never seen, they had a deep cup in the blade with a hole in it , you could wake them just below the surface and they made a unique sound and left a bubble trail, fish would crush'em in the spring around cypress knees and lily pads

Hmmmm, I have several old Long A's that I bought sometime around 1981-82 in a Gold/flash pattern with a silver scale back and an orange belly. They have caught hundreds, if not thousands of fish over the past 35+ years.

I think people move on to something new more than the fish. Zara spooks still catch fish as good as always but there are other baits that can be better so they aren't as popular anymore. A h&h will still catch plenty of fish. Just like a regular ribbon tail worm or brush hog will ALWAYS catch fish
