I may have the opportunity next month to hit the road a couple of times to fish some lakes that I've never laid eyes on, much less fished. I'm out of Waco, so I'm working outward from there.
These are all within about 3 hours (one way). What would your top ones be and why?
Stillhouse Limestone Fairfield Naconiche Cedar Creek Athens Somerville Bastrop Granbury Possum Kingdom Any of the metroplex lakes
If there is a good lake reasonably close to these (I'm coming from Waco) that I'm overlooking, feel free to suggest it. Thanks.

I have only fished 5 of those lakes, but they have been good to me, for the most part. On that list, I like PK the best, with Cedar Creek running 2nd. I would also add Lake Lewisville, as I used to guide on that lake. If you decide to go there, PM me and I can make your time more enjoyable on the lake by giving you some areas that consistently have fish on them. Hope this helps. Tight lines, keep safe and good luck.

Without a doubt PK. Beautiful lake, clear water, great ramps and the lake is loaded with baitfish and the fish show it. I prefer to fish rocky banks near deeper water but there are boat docks and brush piles to fish also. And, you'll catch stripers schooling with the bass early morning.

Also, in case it matters, my primary techniques (meaning what I have confidence in or feel like I'm most productive with) are shallow cranking, pitching/flipping soft plastics (weightless or TX rigged). Of course I love anything topwater if the bite is on.
It'd be interesting to hit some that allowed me to "do my thing" but also good for me if some forced me to do something different in order to be successful.

With the way Buchanan is fishing right now, I would include it on your list.

Stillhouse would be a good one. It's one of my favorite lakes even though it's a haul for me. Really clear water, so it's an awesome topwater lake. The river portion is great too. If you wanna go catch dinks all day, Bastrop is your best choice.

Obvious ones that come to mind are Fork (been there) and Falcon (just too far). On the other hand, Toledo Bend and Rayburn are a little far, but more importantly, are big water for my 17' g3 especially by myself in unfamiliar water. (Maybe I'm just a chicken.) But maybe there is a gem tucked away somewhere that I should try. Feel free to suggest!

That lake has been kickin' out the ShareLunkers lately...only thing is, they're the 8 lb. kind, not the 13's. Seriously though, lots of 5-8 pound fish being caught, with an occasional 8+. Slot lake, 14-21 inch slot. It's a small lake, so not much risk of getting lost. My 17' tin Ranger handles it fine. And it's only 2 1/2 hours (max) from Waco.
