Fishing was absolutely insane nuts again this morning. Once again the fish were surfacing all around me. At one point I was taking a fish off the hook, I dropped my fly in the water and another white bass grabbed it. It slowed down around 8:15 as normal so I walked down the bank and found more fish. I finally stopped around 9:15 this morning.

I was n lake Travis fishing for whites from the bank and all of a sudden the water looked black as a ball of shad were being pushed towards the surface where I was standing. Shad came flying out of the water as the whites chased them and they were flopping all over the rocks and on my feet. Kind a scared me if you want a know the truth. Never had it happen that close to me and when shad came flying towards me it was as real as real can be. Every time I fish for schooling blacks it never fails I'll cast out blind in hope of a bite and a school will pop up beside the boat chasing shad. I can't get my bait reeled in fast enough to catch them next to the boat. I love fishing, you never know what's next.
I was wade fishing the ocean and a skip jack was jumping out of the water headed towards me and I couldn't get of its way and yes it hit me head on right in the middle of my chest. Or be by yourself out about two hundred yards from the shore wading and dolphins swim next to you. Kind a freaky.

I'm going to have to take a day off work and head out there some morning this week. I took a couple of 5 yr olds camping @ birch creek this weekend. They were way more interested in swimming, so fishing attempts didn't have a lot of effort put in. It had been at least 2 years since id been out there. Only a few campsites open. The jetty is open to fish but the pier is closed. There were boats tied off to it and fishing the inside of what was the walkway of the pier, with decent success. Pulling out some nice crappie, and while they didn't limit out, they went home with about a dozen each from what I could see. They were fishing with minnows. Overheard one of them saying that COE was going to rebuild with a floating pier this time. Can't speak to the validity of it, but maybe someone on here knows more. J-moe, I actually ended up with a fly rod, and made some pretty pathetic attempts at it. All I had to tie on to it was a 1/32 oz jig. I don't know if that is something that is actually used on a flyrod, but I found out what you meant by chuck-n-duck. I'll keep at it, I'll just wear a helmet till I get it.

Great!!!! Fly fishing is a blast. I do throw 1/32 ounce jig head flies but normally I do so with my 8 weight rod. It's difficult to cast with lighter weight rods. I can do it with my 5 weight but not very well. If you have a 5 weight or smaller rod then clousers are a good choice.

J-Moe,
Well I obviously have a lot to learn. Look forward to learning it. Maybe one of these days I'll run into you out on the water and I can pick your brain about what I have and what I need. I'll try not to look, so I don't see your honey holes.

It looks like from the latest video that the Whites are biting off of Welch Park early in the morning.

Thanks a million, great video. I really miss viewing the videos on this forum. I really wish I could figure out how to view them again, but I guess I'm to computer illiterate to do it. HaHa!

You will need to update your browser if you want to view videos directly from the forum. The latest versions of Chrome and Firefox will work on Windows 7 but sometimes you have to mess with the security settings to allow linked content and enable plugins for players to view videos ..

You don't have to be an computer expert but it does help when updates and security issues make everything less user friendly. I paddled up to the dam after the COE had shut the flow down a couple weeks ago. They built an earthen dam just past the rocks. There were water pumps and hoses there as well. It looks like they either pumped the water out in front of the gates or will be doing so soon. They must be doing some type of inspections on maintenance. Hopefully after they complete the work they will open up the spillway for fishing again in the future.

Note to all of you who like to fish for bluegill. They have finally moved shallow in large numbers. I caught a bunch of big 8.5 to 9 inchers.

Might have to get some flies and try out some of the beds HLS has marked as Bluegill spots.

Took the kayak to Welch park yesterday afternoon. Pretty rough. Kinda hard to fish and fight the rough water at the same time. Guys on the bank had better luck than I did. I left before sundown, so I don't know just how hot the bite got, but it seemed to be ok. At least for those who could cast into the wind.
