Took the tube out on Lake Athens today. It was a good day on the water. Took about 2 dozen nice sunfish. Lately I've been fishing for fun but the fetching and charming Mrs. Chief wanted fish for supper so who am I to refuse such a request from such an incredible lady. I ended up keeping these: The cutting board is 12 inches wide so that give an idea of the length. Call them 6-8 inches. I took several that were bigger but I like to release the brood fish. I also lost a good fish under a boat house. I'm pretty sure it was a channel cat from the way it fought but I never saw it. It wrapped on a piling and when you use 4 lb line that usually means a lost fish. I also had a big largemouth try to eat one of my sunfish. I'm not really a bass fisherman but it looked to be at least 8 lbs. I didn't have a single bit of bass type gear so I never tried to switch tactics to try for him but I'm betting if I had a floating Rapala I probably could have got it to hit. It wanted that sunfish bad! It was a good day to be alive in East TX. Cheers Y'all.

Looking good Flags! How did you cook them? These ones were filleted and then got a buttermilk bath and were coated in panko bread crumbs and fried to a golden brown. Served with corn and french fries. I make a cocktail sauce with jalapeno ketchup and a lot of horseradish, a dash of hot sauce and a nice shot of lemon juice that works really good with sunfish. Lets just say they were down right TASTY!

Wow Flags now you have really gotten me hungry. Thanks for the recipe. Going to have to take a few sunnies home this week! Side Note: That cocktail sauce sounds AWESOME!
