With my new job, I get much more sleep... Used to be on call 24/7 and sometimes the phone wouldn't stop ringing for a month.

4-5 is about average. 6 is a bonus and I'm grateful for it.

I get about six or so, but it's often very low quality sleep. After year and years of insomnia, I'm doing a sleep study later this year (takes forever to get one scheduled here in College Station). Every four or five months I will have a great night of sleep...8 or 9 hours and will wake up only one or two times. Feels amazing. Finally figured out I should do something about my poor sleep. I almost certainly have sleep apnea. Not excited about the machine and all that jazz, but I would love to get some good sleep. I had to use a CPAP for about a year until I lost enough weight that I didn't need it anymore. You'll be amazed at the difference it makes. I went through trial and error with 5-6 different masks. My favorite was the TapPap, it's a mouthpiece that holds the nasal pillows against your nose, rather than something strapped to your face.

7-8 every night, if i dont have any bothersome issues going on its uninterupted. Once i got my diabetes under control i no longer have to get up to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night and thats a big help

For years I really hated the idea of having to use a CPAP machine, but in hindsight I was incredibly dumb for not pushing my doctor for a sleep study years ago. I sure hope it makes a difference. I will go weeks at a time where it's just crappy night after crappy night. Every three or four months I will go through a bad stretch where I have to give in and take a couple of two or three hour afternoon nap to just get enough rest so that I'm not miserable to be around. I try to avoid naps like the plague because they just disrupt my sleep even more, but occasionally it's the only way I can function.
