This year has been so strange. Some blame the weather...some the Asian carp. Some blame the fluctuating water levels...I just don’t know. This time of year we should be filling boats with crappie...not happening. Fish are scattered...some up shallow, some still deep.. still in the 15-25 foot range. Bass fish are the same.

This quote from one of the better guides around:

“The USA Bassin tournament last Saturday had 31 boats with no 5 fish limits weighed. 25 of those 31 boats had one fish or less. The Legacy Marine tournament last Sunday had 28 boats, of which 2 limits were weighed in and of the 28 boats, 23 boats had 2 fish or less. ........"

There’s a major tournament on the pond in early May....I’m going to be watching to see what the pros do.

But some people are straight whacking em at the same time! Conroe with 30lb sacks and fish over 10lbs. Rayburn and Toledo fishing well. Pines giving up 25lb+ sacks multiple weekends in a row.

I agree the weather has been quite unusual this year and the spawn has prob been wacky but so many good stories out there I just keep casting!

So...maybe it is the Asian carp.

Some say the carp have taken out the vegetation needed for the Shad fry to survive.

I have no idea... I just know I used to fish Clay Bay. It has Clay creek feeding it and two other drainages flowing into it. Lots of rock on the South side....60’ water at the mouth....buck brush in two foot water in the back. It was a place you could always plan to catch bass. No so any more....carp wallow in the shallows. The mats of grass that provided shelter for the new spawn no longer exist. Gone.

I've been reading about the Asian Carp takeover on Kentucky Lake. Sounds like you guys have a serious problem! I hope y'all get it figured out some way or another. That lake is/was such a jewel. It's a shame what it is now.
