Just curious what others are using to fry fish in.. I have always used a pot or a fagita disk but I'm wondering if a cast iron pot would be better?

Cast iron is better for cooking just about everything. It has better heat control and if taking care of properly is non stick surface. The stuff will last forever. I have a Dutch oven that is over 70+ years old (still young for cast iron) I got from grandpa. Cast iron can be used in the oven, on the stove top, and outside in a fire.
So yes, cast iron is better for frying. The oil will not cool down as much when a load of fish (food) is dump in.
I only own one pan (for boiling rice, noodles, beans and water) that is not cast iron and I use cast iron everyday.
I always say to get a Dutch oven for the first piece of cast iron. It can be use as a skillet as well as a oven or deep fryer.

I have a counter top fryer. Holds a little over a gallon of oil and has two baskets. Its thermostatically controlled to what temp you set it on and works great.

Just curious what others are using to fry fish in.. I have always used a pot or a fagita disk but I'm wondering if a cast iron pot would be better? I dont fry fish...I saut them over medium/low heat in a cast iron skillet with real butter...the fish will melt in your mouth.

Its interesting how a pan fried in a cast iron skillet fillet tastes different than the same fish deep fried in an aluminum pot heated by a propane cooker.

Cast iron dutch oven or cast iron skillet depending on what and how much we are frying. Now, if we have a big fish fry...gotta go with the gas burner and a huge 30 qts. Takes forever for the oil to get up to temperature, but it will not take you all day to serve 15-20 people.

As 007fisher said, I use my Turkey fryer with the small pot and strainer basket that can be bought for the fryer. And as 007fisher also said, the Turkey pot for big fish fries. Keeps from smelling up the house too.

I would rather die finding out there was no God than die finding out there is.
