One last trout stocking to close out the Season, then it's warm water fishing time. Checked out the trout derby in McKinney. Lots of people, and lots of fishing action. Did not fish the derby but did fish later in the day and caught and released several before the rain started. Fin stuff! Quick Update - March 17, 2018.

Made it to McKinney this morning and fished for a couple of hours. Caught two, lost two, then had leave them biting. Power Bait, Power Worms, and corn were working. Olive Near Deere under a strike indicator worked, too. Did try a new recipe for the trout caught Friday... broiled it this time. Tasty dish, keeping this one for future 20" and larger trout!

Quick update posted... as noted earlier, TRWD Flyfest video is posted, also more details on the broiled trout recipe (should work for other fish, too), and a snippet of past warm water fishing. Fun stuff! March 19, 2018 Quick Update.

Here is a quick demo of the OPST Commando Head that we use with a 5wt flyrod for one-handed spey casting. Nothing fancy... Switch Cast and a modified "Perry Poke" gets an easy 21 yard cast. Lots of fun casting this rig; even more fun when a fish is on the line! Quick Demo - OPST Commando Head.

Quick trip to Bethany Lakes this evening. Caught three Bass - one on a Foam Grasshopper; two on a Red Damsely Fly. Too nice an evening to be indoors! Quick Update - March 29, 2018.

Working on a video to answer the question why we like one-handed spey casting... came across this video about running line management. Going to keep this one in mind since the mono running line can be a pain when casting. Post.

Still working on the one-handed spey casting video. But, did have fun today using the telescoping Micro Fly Rod modified with larger rod guides... fun stuff for quick trips to the local pond! Micro Fly Rod.

Been meaning to get this video out; it answers the question of why we like one-handed spey casting...? First part demos different rods we used before settling on a 6wt Switch Rod and a 5wt Trout Fly Rod lined with OPST Commando Head. Second part are clips of past trips using the fly rods including one that was not in the first part. One-Handed Spey Casting.

Started Sunday morning with a swing and miss. Decided to move to another spot just down the road Windy and cold, did not plan to fish for long. But, then got a bite on the PMOT turned out to be a nice Bluegill! Was about ready to head home, but decided on one more cast... put on a strike indicator and went with a COAF Guadalupana for the fishing fly. Took a little to figure out the hookset but ended up losing count of how many were caught and released. Even came back later that evening and lost count again of what was caught and released. Will get a video posted of the evening round later in the week. For now, here is the video from this morning! Out and About Sunday Morning Pond Fishing.
