Don't have pics but I bought a transducer mounting plate and shield from Transducer Shield & Saver in Alabama and mounted mine on the side of the jackplate. I could have mounted it on the inside of the jackplate but much easier to mount it on the outside. My boat is a ZX190 Skeeter and the transducer was mounted on the bottom of the transom and I was always bumping it on stumps. No problems now. The folks at TS&S are great and their products are 1st class.

My Skeeter came with the SI semi-flush mounted on the transom step, just behind the livewell ports and plug.
Works great, but obviously looses bottom contact on plane. The shoot-thru sonar is what I have to use when on pad.

works best mounted next to jack plate, I moved mine to the jack plate and now it works better. Must have been getting feedback next to the hull. I made a aluminum plate and mounted it flush with the bottom of the jack plate and on the inside of it. sorry no pics

Mountes on jack plate, the trouble I'm having with mine, is, when I'm idling with the wind hitting my left or my right and the waves are rocking the boat, i'll have zig-zag lines show up on side scan. Its not too bad

.... we are having an issue with ours on an 06 Triton. Works great up to 33mph and then the depth quits reading .... talked to an ol' boy at the ramp on Athens yesterday that was driving a Champion with the same hull config at the transom and he had his mounted in the same spot ... right between the drain ports at the bottom of the hull just below the jack plate and he was having the same issue. Can you move a totalscan transducer somewhere that it will eliminate that and read all the time while on plane at +35mph ? or is the only fix the 2D transducer mounted with epoxy in the bottom of the boat ?

Transducer Shield & Saver is the way to go. I did the same on my ZX 200. They will get you exactly what you need.

From what I understand, it will need a thru-hull or a separate transducer epoxied inside the hull in its lowest/thinnest spot....right in front of the drain plug. I'm sure technology has advanced enough that there is a better way...but I'm not aware of anything better.

Thanks SteezMcQueen I can't find any information that says anything different from what you stated Even the Lowrance installation You Tube videos say that high speed depth readings must come from the thru-hull transducer

I have an older ZX, no jack plate. Tried to mount total scan low enough to get reading on plane and did. Problems with that......fork stumps got it once, couldnt get it high enough to not drag and the force of water coming off the hull actually pushed it down at a 45 degree versus up, got a transom saver and mounted it higher and it read on plane but pulled everything off at around 61 mph!!!!! Too much drag on that big ducer if not mounted perfect. So went to this and mounted on step....... https://www.cabelas.com/product/LOWRANCE...mp;gclsrc=aw.ds

Your best bet is to leave it where its at or raise it up and connect a 2D for reading while on plane. Lowrance only rates the totalscan transducer for speeds up to 50mph due to bracket design and the size of the thing. I have one mounted on my bay boat and it works great at WOT but thats barely 50 on a good day.

Sorry about bringing back an old post, but I am just getting into side view and am concerned about transducer placement. I have a zx200 skeeter with a 12" jack plate and am concerned about the side view with the Skeeter's sponsoon shape. I would like the best transducer placement for at rest or trolling speeds..... don't care about 'on plane' signal... I've got other ways to take care of that.
So, from previous threads, it looks like a jack plate mount is the best option for signal and transducer protection if an 'on plane' signal is not needed. Transducer Shield and Saver seems to be one way to go, but others say with that setup they encounter a problem in that they see a reflection from the other side of the jack plate. These guys recommend a 'skid plate' from Hydrodynamics that bolts to the bottom of the jack plate and provides a nice flat surface to mount the transducer.
Now that most guys have been into side view for several years, what's your opinion? BTW, the unit is a Garmin 93sv and the transducer is a GT52.
Thanks

Get a transducer shield saver and mount it to the side of your Jack plate.
