A couple weeks ago I was catching male crappie on beds in 5-10 feet of water on PK. Most had Cormorant marks on them but they have to put up with the birds every year. After two bad cold fronts I'm now catching them under deep water docks again. I'm watching a hard North wind bringing in another cold front and I am not sure that these fish will spawn this year.

Sand Bass have also been absent. The places that should be wall to wall with them only have a carp and a few LM Bass. It's been a weird year for sure.

John 21:3 Simon Peter saith unto them, I go a fishing. They say unto him, We also go with thee.

I would guess we've had one spawn here on Sandlin. The bite was good two weeks ago, then they backed off. If another wave is coming, we'll probably start seeing them shallow in 5-10 days.

The solution to any problem - work, love, money, whatever - is to go fishing, and the worse the problem, the longer the trip should be. --John Gierach

Its not even that late. Mid April/early May is not unusual at all. Theyll be shallow. Patience.

It's running roughly a month late in general. Water in the upper 50s in dfw is very strange for mid April. Every year there are fish that will not spawn and will re absorb their eggs. The ones that do make up the difference.

they have been in and out of our cove lately. Females I cleaned yesterday morning still had mush for eggs

Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach

No but they will move back out to their pre spawn hangouts.

Yep another crazy tx spring, been out few times really haven't been serious yet. This front will slow em down. Last 2 yrs caught spawner in mid may. GOTTA GET THUMPED.

I have been catching spawners for a while...only cleaned one female that has completely spawned out over the last three months...of course, I havent fished deep structure yet, which is where most females go after spawning. DW Moore could probably provide a report on spawned out females on deeper brush...
