A couple weeks ago I was catching male crappie on beds in 5-10 feet of water on PK. Most had Cormorant marks on them but they have to put up with the birds every year. After two bad cold fronts I'm now catching them under deep water docks again. I'm watching a hard North wind bringing in another cold front and I am not sure that these fish will spawn this year.
Sand Bass have also been absent. The places that should be wall to wall with them only have a carp and a few LM Bass. It's been a weird year for sure.
John 21:3 Simon Peter saith unto them, I go a fishing. They say unto him, We also go with thee.

It’s not even that late. Mid April/early May is not unusual at all. They’ll be shallow. Patience.

they have been in and out of our cove lately. Females I cleaned yesterday morning still had mush for eggs
Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach

I think the spawn last longer than most people do and all the fish don’t spawn at the same time, just my thoughts I have been catching spawners for a while...only cleaned one female that has completely spawned out over the last three months...of course, I haven’t fished deep structure yet, which is where most females go after spawning. DW Moore could probably provide a report on spawned out females on deeper brush...
