Cally seems to have changed, at least my last trips there. Last couple trips we caught 4-8 fish, but all were 3-8 lbs. Not sure if it was me or the lake.

I agree, Cally has changed. We use to pick up a nice stringer of channel cat every trip, but not these days. I wonder what happened?

From what I heard on the street was they are going to change the lake up. I heard that they will not be using the Coal Gen units to create power. If that happens then the temp of the water will change and that will affect all the fish. The reds will die do to the tilapia kill and then the bass and the cats will be next.

Why would you think all the fish will die?
Yes the reds will, but there are plenty of non power plant lakes that bass, cats, and hybrids survive in.

Tilapia live in all kinds of non power plant lakes etc. I don't think the world will end and everything will die if they quit running the coal plant.

I went with a popular cat guide on Cal earlier this year. We caught only a few fish. Nice ones but not many. I can remember fishing Cal for cats 8 to 10 years ago and if you didn't catch a bunch of cats you were asleep.
He mentioned that what concerns him is that he has been catching fewer fish and very few small fish. Most are 3 pounds or over.
We both agreed that this is adding up to poor spawn.
I can't help but think that the plecostomus have taken over the lake. They love to eat fish eggs.
You shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free

Thanks for the responses. I don't want to be a dummy, but what are plecostomus?

Thanks for the responses. I don't want to be a dummy, but what are plecostomus? Plecos. An imported species people put in their aquariums till they get too big. Then they turn them loose in lakes, steams and ponds. Calavrias has millions of them.
Snowflakes and entitled brats will be the doom of America!

Can I ask who.the cat guide was on calaveras?
I'm totally new to the lake. If anyone that knows the lake ever has an open seat I don't mind paying for everything. Or we could take my boat.

Just trying to learn... not steal secret spots This was the guide I was referring to. He's very good at helping his clients learn about catching catfish on Cal. https://www.facebook.com/TJS-Guide-Service-261936017175261/
