Question for the users of one or the other or both. I am looking to invest in one of these but cant decide which. What seems to be advantages or disadvantages to the models listed?

It won't be an investment, it will be an expense since it looses value once you own it.

Both use the same frequencies and the transducer is the same size and shape.
Humminbird and third party mounts are interchangeable.

The SOLIX has a touch screen, Helix does not.
The SOLIX will share mapping with another SOLIX or ONIX, the Helix will not.
The SOLIX will share the Heading Sensor in a AS GPS HS antenna separate from the GPS, the Helix will not.
The SOLIX can have custom views created, the Helix cannot.
The Helix has adjustable view sizes for split screen view panels, the SOLIX does not.

The Helix will display full width 360 Front view, the SOLIX is about 2" less width:

The Helix is better for those in open boats. The Solix is better for larger ocean vessels.

I have had a decent amount of seat time with both models and honestly say I really like the Solix units. Both are great and have great imagery, but if were just talking personal preference, the touch screen, the ability to run a 4 screen split is great for me. On the solix you can do a 2 finger touch on any one pane and it will go full screen to the pane you touched, to reverse just 2 finger touch and it goes back to 4 panes. I always default to the split 4 screen because it is so easy to navigate from there, the helix does not have this ability. I have always run 2-10' units at the dash, until now, I go with one Solix 15 at the dash and 1 up front.

I run the Solix 12 at the console and the Helix 12 Mega SI at the bow. I have a G3 Angler and fish for Crappie. I like both units very much. The Solix is fantastic on small waters just as is the Helix.
Wayne has touched on the details in the above post.

If you are in the area (Lewisville) feel free to stop by and put your hands on the units and get a better feel before you make that purchase.

I have a helix mega 12 and the unit is awesome. I wish that I would have purchased the solix for the touch screen option. Coming from Lowrance the touch screen is nice and I believe I would have liked the solix better due to touch screen. Either way the mega is the deal!

Either would be great. KVD is running 4 Helix 12s this year on his Nitro. The Humminbird touch screen is good but not as responsive as a Lowrance.
