I managed 42 in two outings this week on a single jig. While I wouldn't disparage ANY company or individual who make jigs, I WILL say that hands-down, Lane Palmer's jigs last longer than any I've tried.

THE JIG: Blazin' Raisin Thump Buddy (on a 1/8 oz. jig head)

Gracias, Lano!

Best I recall, 63 crappie, 2 bass, 3 perch...broke the hook on three jigheads and the bubblegum thumpbuddy looks kinda ragged, compared to the new one shown in the pic above...it still hangs on one of my antique steel rods, resting against the fireplace and I am looking at it now!

Cant beat Laners baits for long life, as he is the king... king

No doubt, you could probably plug holes in tires with Laners baits...

I am trying to recall, my average number of fish caught on different manufacturers baits.

Thermocline baits average about 15 fish per bait (although, I have caught upwards of a couple limits on occasion) panfish Assassins average maybe 8/10, Crazy anglers seem to manage 7/8, some of the Boneheads manage 5/6...some of the others maybe 1/3 fish on average. Of course, Laners baits are harder than any I have ever fished, the new doesnt even wear off, till you catch half a dozen...or use sandpaper on them.

Two limits of crappie on a Bob Young root beer jig. Lots of speculation why Bob favored shorter jigs.
Bob used the bow/arrow type cast for several reasons, principally to insure the bait didn't fall below a 90 to the line. Grasping it by the head and loading the bait w/rod kept the presentation good. Also a strike indicator, when retrieved if jig not perpendicular meant missed fish.
Still have it, out fishes plastic and lasts.

A friend and I found sandies and crappie up a creek in December and all I used was the pink and yellow color thump buddy. Easily caught 100fish on one jig. Otherwise, I dont usually get to count that high, typically break off at some point.

I used the same jig head and Slab Bandit all last summer. I did use other bits at times, but that same jig stayed tied on the same rod and was fished almost daily. At least 100 fish..may be 200 or more.

Bob Young arguably tied the most effective hand tied jigs ever produced, and was a legend around east Texas and the crappie community. If the story is true, his wife refused to sell his head mold even after his death. I would've liked to have fished with Mr Young.

JP24, and others, thank you for taking the time to share your kind words. I started making jigs to meet my needs as a guide, because at the time, tough jigs weren't really a thing. The original Rocky Tops were a huge inspiration to build something better. I admit, I never intended to have a third career in jig making, it was just another means of making a few dollars when I was incredibly poor at the beginning of my guide career. You guys have been here every step of the way, and the words "thank you" just don't seem to be enough for all the support you've shown me since our start in a small 4 x 8ft closet in 2010.

He thought like a crappie! Had an old Lowrance graph on the front of his Champion that had a display about like an Atari and still would load the boat! He used $400 G Loomis rods to fish under a bridge! I was sure careful where I stepped in the boat though. As nice as they were, I never put one to use! Sadie his bird dog ate better than most humans. His wife would cook pots of chicken stew for the dog!!! roflmao

With all that said you make some tough as nails plastics Laner!!! thumb

I've caught 50-75 before several times before breaking off. I'm not gonna lie about how many I've caught off 1 hand tie before. I did have one retied at about 250 because the chenielle came unwound! He thought I was crazy!

Lanes baits are tuff and the crappie simply love them but to answer the op question I have to be truthful. I had Ron "Blue Nitro" tie me up a black/chart pink head and I proceeded to ware the crappie out. Over 200 fish on this one jig in the month of March under a bobber. Pond hopping around town.

You guys are amazing...catching that many fish on one jig would mean I would have to keep from breaking it off! I typically break off about 2-3 jigs per hour.

The first thumpbuddy i ever used i had caught over 150 fish. The only reason i did not catch more is, because I hung up and lost it.
