Going to Caddo Lake first part of May. Does anyone have any information on the best techniques or locations?

welcome

You might specify what you are wanting to catch.

1st of May and I'm hunting bream beds. Neighbor was out this weekend and said lake looked better than it has in a couple years.

I was there Sunday and lake is still "up" but dropping fast. Water temps were hitting 70* by the time I left. The lake is looking good and I'm not seeing nowhere near the salvania like in the past.

In May (for bass) I would suggest starting shallow throwing a frog or swim jig around any vegetation(tons of pads in the lake by then) and then working towards deeper water as the day goes on. "deep" here is relative as 7' is really deep besides the channel! Flipping or chatterbaits or crankbaits whatever you prefer it all usually works. Like Timber mentioned the bream spawn should be on and the clarity is usually good enough to see the beds or also smell them. June bug is a good color on the lake for plastics. I like white/chartreuse or bream colors for chatterbaits. Location well its kinda all the same stuff besides fishing the cypress river part which is deeper and normally has some current flow. Tons of cypress trees all over the lake. A few areas have some docks. Stay in the boat lanes!!

I was there 2 weeks ago, bass were moving baits off the beds a lot of the time. But then you would get a good hit and the fun was on. Lake clarity varied depending on where you were fishing.

My favorite lake to visit, and always like it when it was as nice as it was this year! We stayed up on the bayou, about 5 minute run to Johnson's Marina.

I could show you an area I caught a couple fish in... It was my first time and only time to ever fish there... usually just go for the joy ride.

Been over there the last two weekends...no bass sightings, but the crappie are sure taking my jig for a trip into the grease!

Water is clear, plenty of recreational folks on the water, no gators sighted...

Bass fishing is on like crazy. I personally know of 7 over 8 and 3 over 10 in the last week. Sadly none were mine. Lol but I did catch around 30 yesterday. Its taking 28 plus to win out there this year also
