 Canal fishing around corpus schlitterbahn???

We have rented a place on the canal near the schlitterbahn corpus/padre whatever. I was curious what people fish for in this area and what equipment/baits do we need. We have never done it and would like to see if we can get something while we are taking it easy off the back porch.
We will not be going until July so any information would be greatly appreciated.
