Well I was creeping around the Louisiana sportsman page seen lots of pics fish in live wells no water and saying soon to hit the grease. At the rate of those pics I can’t see a lot of fishing being left there soon

Don’t join Facebook because they post it there just to stir the pot and they have a 10 fish limit.

Man, I'm almost 50 years old, and we been catching fish like that in La since I was a kid. I don't think they're gonna run out in any of our lifetimes. Specially now that MOST people throw bass back, unlike in the past where we ate them all. I wouldn't be too worried about it.

People have been eating bass for a long time... has your lake ran out yet?

Yes sir. When we lived on Caddo, we ate bass and crappie. No way you could eat a lake out.

I've been to lakes all across Texas, there are big bass in dumpsters that have seen the knife at every lake. Pretty sure us coon asses arent at every single one of these lakes. I'm certain Louisiana residents dont have the monopoly on eating.all your fish.

It absolutely can happen. There are many lakes in Northern Wisconsin that are essentially fished out, particularly for walleye. Limits of 1 per day over 15" are not uncommon, but mostly a joke because nobody actually catches a walleye over 15" in those lakes.

More people, same habits, and same amount of water. Unless laws are changed there is a 100% chance lakes will be severely damaged if not destroyed at some point. Go to the kids section at your local library. Pick out the book the Lorax. That book will tell you everything you need to know. Apparently half the fishermen out there skipped that one in Kindergarten.

For what it's worth I strongly favor season bag limits over daily bag limits. I think most folks are reasonable responsible anglers, but then there is the 10% who are not happy unless they limit out every outing so they can replace all that freezer burnt fish they have at home.

how do you explain the fishing being good in T-bend and rayburn after 50 years of heavy fishing pressure and removal of fish by the Cajuns.....big difference between a small lake with a short growing season up north and huge impoundment like T-bend or rayburn....
keep in mind also that each year the spawn produces millions more fry than the lake can sustain....

I’ve seen lakes here get fished out I’m in Arkansas. They are smaller lakes though. Spanish folks fish and keep literally everything they catch. Big or small. Use to go night fish couple of them catch good
Fish. Well that’s not happened in years.

If don't realize Toledo isn't the lake it was just 4-5 years ago you're living under a rock. Yes we all know people have been keeping fish forever but the difference is the number of people keeping fish nowadays. The keep rate on Toledo is upwards of 70%. For comparison, Rayburn is around 25%. Just think about that, 7 out of 10 boats keeping their limits on the water. Does it have an impact, of course it does. You can't fish Toledo out but you can definitely make it a more avg lake. Ask the people down around falcon and amistad about people filleting big bass when those were awesome lakes.

If you don't think harvesting bass has an impact on fish populations go to lakes like Welsh and Gilmer that have 18" minimums and Jacksonville when it was also 18". See how many fish you catch that are 15-17" and how few over 18". We used to fish tournaments on Jacksonville and out of probably 150 fish put in my boat three would touch 18". My bass club fished Gilmer two years ago and one 18" fish won. Everyone else "zeroed", but we all caught a lot of fish up to 17-3/4".

Those fish don't just stop growing at 17-3/4, so the only explanation is that people are taking the legal fish out of the lake.

we can argue all day about whether fishing pressure affects a large reservoir and none of us including fishery biologists will ever know the answer unless we drain the lake and count the fish....
evry lake that has had a slot or minimum size limit tends to stockpile fish right under the size including lakes in other states....
lakes cycle up and down and have been doing it for years.....I submit to you that cover such as flooded brush and grass have a huge effect on the fish population....spraying the grass has ruined the fishing on numerous lakes and dropping the water level like what happened on falcon and fish population drops....

I don't know about Toledo and Rayburn but look at the Red River. I swear there aren't 100 bass in that entire system. Miles of beautiful water with no fish.
