I will be visiting family in Waxahachie soon and want to hire a guide to take us out on their local lake. I know there are other lakes near by but they would like to learn their lake. We may be willing to travel to another lake if the fishing is that much better but would like to keep it within an hour. We are looking for quantity rather than size.

I live in Bastrop and am looking for a guide for the same reason. Ive googled some but would like actual experiences if possible.

Ander Meine guides on Bastrop. I've gone out with him on other lakes, and he's pretty good.

I'm from that area and I'm not sure if there is a bass guide on Waxahachie. I did a quick Google search and didn't see anything

Thats what I found using google as well... we can go to another nearby lake but are not interested in driving to Lake Fork or other similarly distanced lakes.

Shane,

Guides have a hard enough time making a living on a lake that has produced the last two state records like Fork. You fish every day for 4 months then you pick up trips when you can the rest of the year.

Having been one, you have to go where the folks want to go. Lake Fork is about as good as it gets in NE TX. Guiding is a tough way to make a living even on a lake with world-wide notoriety like Fork.

If you are dead-set on going to a lake near Waxahachie I would suggest you look at Bardwell or even venture out to Cedar Creek and even then you I would bet you will be hard pressed to find a guide on one of those two lakes.

If you haven't been to the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center in Athens I would highly suggest that as an activity for you and your BIL. It is a world class facility and its only about an hour away from Wax. Let me know if you decide to do that and I will arrange a back of the house tour.

I have friends in low places. wink

If you want someone to guide you on Bastrop, give Mike Hastings a call. He's been guiding Fayette, Bastrop and Travis for years and will always put you on fish. Bastrop is a fun little lake to fish and it doesn't take long to learn the lake. I guided there years ago on occasion but it's not a big enough lake to support even one full time guide in my opinion.
Here's Mike's site http://www.gitbitguideservice.com/
