We are planning to do a father/son overnighter trip below PK using Rochelle's shuttle service. My buddy is also coming with his sons. He has a Hobie and an ATAK, but is planning to bring the Hobie. My concern is that he may do more paddling than pedaling. I know a lot depends on flow, but lets say it's at 100cfs. We would like y'alls opinion on if he should bring the Hobie or Atak.
Thanks

ATAK. It's like he owns a sedan and a truck but takes the sedan to Lowes to get 10 bags of mulch. It can do it but not the practical vehicle for the job. Same between the Hobie and the ATAK.

There will be a few sections that you will have to drag a bit at 100 cfs. It's not too big of a deal. 150-200 cfs is pleasant. I'd go with the ATAK over the Hobie on that stretch.

If the Hobie is one of the Pro Anglers, then I would take the ATAK 140. If it's an Outback or Compass then I could talk myself into taking it, because there is enough deep water to utilize the drive system. May get annoying to constantly pop the drive in and out for the shallow stuff between the deeper pools you'll see at 100 cfs. Actually, I talked myself out of it, I'd take the ATAK 140 over a Hobie for river/camping trips.

Just floating last weekend in my 12ft Old Town discovering canoe and had to get out once past the 10 mike mark. Dragged a few more times but made it. Was lower this year more than last year. Maybe the rain we just had will help.

Thanks for the replies. All that was in line with my thinking. He just got the Hobie so he's itching to use it, but I think with the knowledge of the TFF, we have changed his mind!
We are looking forward to the trip.

I am doing the trip next next April 14-15. I have an Outback and a Jackson Cuda 12. Taking the Outback seems too much risk of having to take the drive out and putting it back in when having to drag, or bending a shaft by hitting something etc. I have considered taking the Outback without the drive but I believe the Jackson is better for paddling.
The trip I am going on is sponsored by the Rec Center at TCU and is primarily a canoeing, overnite camping trip. I believe that we start at Hwy 16 and camp one nite and take out at Rochelles. I will bring my Jackson and a fishing rod so I can throw a lure in the water as I have time. Won't be able to stop and fish for any extended periods of time. Any recommendations on what baits to bring?

Any recommendations on what baits to bring? When I was there last, a Booyah craw-colored spinner, Mepps Black Fury spinner, and 3" weighted swimbait worked for me. Nothing big but I ate fish every night.

We were going this weekend, but will reschedule for another time. I don't think the kids (or me) would enjoy freezing temps and wind chills in the 20's on Saturday morning. I appreciate all of the info!

Brrrrrr- We are going this weekend anyway - Probably not going to get far before we pull over and make camp - Just gonna have to hump it Sunday when the weather is a bit warmer- Too hard to get our schedules together - ******* sober update- Well upon further review, I was hoping the temps would trend higher not lower- They are not- Just gonna have to reschedule this trip- Oh well-
