I grew up bass and catfishing both, always from the bank. I have a bass boat now and bass fish often but I enjoy catfishing as well. Here's my issue, every time I try and catfish out of my bass boat its a mess... I try and anchor up and bottom fish and the boat swings so I can't keep any line tight, and they get all tangled. I'd love to do some catfishing around the SA area but it always ends up that way. Suggestions? Drift fish? Fish with corks? I have no idea...

Fish with corks, get power poles or two anchors to stop the boat swinging.

I always run a few juglines out in an area that are unweighted(drifting) and then go find a spot nearby to driftfish. I only anchor up to fish the shallow areas and like above said double anchor or even tie up to a tree with an anchor out the other end.

Good ideas, not ready to break the bank on power poles, but I can double anchor or tie up

I bought a set of shallow water anchors from anytide.

Box anchors hold like nobody's business. Tying to 2 stumps is how I used to do it. Don't worry about a little sway in the boat or bow in the line

Run some jugs and then go fish for bass or anchor up somewhere. Go check your jugs every hour or so. Works great for me.

Ok I usually tie one end of boat to tree and throw an anchor on other end. I think some fisgphermen get too into how many rods to put out. I fish with one at a time and keep my eyes hands and attention on that one rod. I have 6 bready holders that sometimes hold my one rod. I do carry my 8 rigged poles in the boat in case I break one off.

When I catfish from my kayak I only ever use one anchor. Like others have mentioned, sometimes I'll tie up on one end and anchor off the other to prevent swaying. But that's not always an option.

It's not all that important to have tight lines. If the boat is swaying, you'll be alternating between semi tight line and sagging line. If the line is tight, watch the pole, if the line is sagging, watch the line. Instead of the pole bending, when the line is sagging and a fish bites you'll see the line tighten/twitch/sag further. Often times even with majorly sagging line the catfish will still take off and bend the pole over.

Personally, since I'm on a kayak, I'm mostly fishing warm weather and shallow water. So most of the time I'm using floats instead of fishing on the bottom so the tight line thing is a non issue.

I fish almost exclusively for catfish out of my bass boat. You definitely need two anchors to keep that boat from swinging. Drift fishing with two drift socks or just keeping the boat sideways as you drift with the trolling motor is another good option.

I got tired and impatient with anchors so I put two power poles on and love it. I can sidescan fish, drop those poles in shallow water, and be fishing in seconds. I can also move from spot to spot much more quickly.

I do pretty good at keeping the slime off my carpet, but when I do I just power-wash the carpet and it looks like new again.

fish Years ago before power poles came out I made two 1 1/2''pvc poles by gluing a 5' section to a 10' section. I carried these in the boat by using bungee cords to secure to the side rails. I also cut a 45 degree angle on the end going into the mud. I would aim the bow towards the wind and used a plastic hammer to drive the pvc down into the bottom and secure the pvc to the boat tie downs. Only one time that I couldn't get one back out and had to tie on and use the boat motor to pull it out. This method worked good for crappie fishing. Good luck fishing.

I catfish out of my bass boat, putting trolling motor on constant low speed lets you drift when there is no wind. 2 drift socks when there is wind. Only draw back is no rod holders!

2 anchors is the way to go, thrown out at a 45 angle from front and back.
