Have never fished there before, but a buddy and I are gong to try it out on Sunday. Anyone have any pointers?

The Island isn't a bad spot to start on the south end of the lake.

We shall try that. Any good colors you think they bite on more frequently out there?

Better get there early, parking lot fills up fast on the weekend during the spawn.

Senkos and Flukes will get bit. There are beds EVERYWHERE, so use the bed baits in 1 - 6 foot where you see the light spots. you can sit in an area and watch bass after bass come up shallow. Some of those that you can see to sight fish are skittish and many fish have been stuck a time or two.

.... 300 boats per day on the weekend ....
think I'll set up a valet service at the ramp
....you think if I post a map with all the HOT SPOTS and all the brush piles and everyone tries to fish them all at one time .......
.... will they get frustrated with all the boats on one or two spots and not come back ?
Tuff fishing the lake the rest of the year after all the "sight & bed" fishermen hammer it for 2 months.
But it is what it is ...... come enjoy.
PLEASE watch the HONEY HOLE before you come and concentrate on the spots that Bill puts in his videos,,,, they are the GREATEST spots on the Lake.
Make sure you support the local economy .... eat, drink & buy stuff in our little town of Athens

A bit of rain yesterday, nothing very heavy, but about 1.5" of slow rain as I type since midnight today, all slow and nothing dramatic. More rain is expected today, lessening chances tomorrow, Thursday, but dry Friday and on forward for a few days.

So, back up above the 2495 bridge, it'll be somewhat muddy, less so on the main lake. Lake Athens is different than most lakes as it isn't on a major river system so it doesn't catch a whole lot of "color" coming down and flowing into it like many others.

I'd adjust colors of baits to account for dingier water.

We are at 440.60 or so, less than a foot above conservation level but I suspect it'll get close to 441' by the end of the rain event.

If you cross the boom be careful and not damage your motor.

That boom has a Big Ol log chain inside of it.
It will do some major damage
Why on earth would you want to cross it with all the rest of the lake to fish ?
It is really not that GREAT back there anywho

Make sure you have enough momentum to make it across in one passing. Skeeter sponsons and power poles do not like stopping mid-boom.

...Ask me how I know... I did end up getting towed off of it, by a guide who told me it was illegal to cross. I replied with what TPWD had on their website, and was posted on here when they put up the boom. That being said, I didn't stick around to fish my spots on that end of the lake. I just gave up on it after making it back over the boom.

Do cross in the middle of the float, and not at the metal joints. Luckily I didn't make that mistake.

...I understand if you are a REBEL and are just ANTI-ESTABLISHMENT and this is a way of showing your right to disagree ..... you would cross the BOOM.
BUT there is a reason it is placed there & crossing the boom then going back out into the main lake really defeats the purpose of the boom.
WHY anyone would want to cross the BOOM and go fish the 2 or 3 spots back there that are worth fishing with the rest of Athens just a left turn away from the boat ramp is very puzzling to me.
...... Maybe just plain ol ----- you pick the word: dumb, stupid, ignorant, hard headed, because I can -----
what fits YOU
I know it is not illegal ---- BUT. For the sake of the rest of the lake ???
