My 17 Tundra is a total. About to pick out a new vehicle. Been driving trucks forever but thinking about switching to SUV (tahoe/expedition)

Like the idea of being able to keep tackle, cooler etc. inside of SUV. Also thinking you could pop the hatch and have great view of trailer when launching or baking up?

Right now I'm towing 20' single axle about 3000#

Who has experience towing/launching with SUV and truck? What's your preference?

Might want to do some research on your choices before you buy. Not sure about the current models but both have had torque converter issues. If It was me I would stick with Toyota. SUVs are great if you have family and don't need a bed but also normally cost more than pickups.

I haven't heard that. I know this guy hasn't heard that either. He's the transmission guy at my GM dealership. His stalls and rebuild table are like this daily. When I read this I walked over and took these picture because I knew they would be empty. I'll let him know we have converter problem so he can get to work.

Have used a Yukon, suburban, and Tahoe to tow a very similar setup. They all performed fine, the extra weight over the rear wheels will give you some more traction on slick ramps.

That said I much prefer the open bed of a truck to an suv. I find many times more often I have something big or dirty that I want to put in the bed than I do find somethin I cant fit in a crew cab truck.

You know every Tom "Richard" and Harry screams at the top of their lungs from the highest hill forever when they have a problem with a new car. Just because you read about a problem doesn't mean it everyone every time and common. If you read the ram ecodiesel forum you would think its a wonder I manage to make it 20 miles to work every morning and 20 miles back home every day. In reality I have almost 50k miles without one hiccup.

I understand the whole 1 unhappy owner versus 1000 happy one thing but I have simply read of too many people having problems with the Big 3. Enough to scare me away. I owned Fords for 35 years. Had mostly good ones but one total piece of junk and lack of any kind of help from Ford plus their attitude chased me away and made me maybe a little over cautious. I actually got several quotes on GM products when I was looking last year. I probably would have bought one if I could have gotten the 6.2 in an LT trim. I was not going to touch the 5.3.

I went to pick up my boss at the Toyota dealer today. I saw a tundra getting the engine pulled. I would stay away from tundras. Their clearly not reliable.

This!^^^ Yeah pretty much fake news. I read about these problems and I never see them but things I see all the time that I are problems nobody ever mentions. It's kind of weird like that in the car business. Now days just buy what you like and drive it. You pretty much can't go wrong.

I have had a Tundra and had to have the transmission replaced while it was still in warranty. Now have a 2015 GMC with 6.2/8 speed transmission. Had to have the torque converter changed at about 35,000 miles and it has been a major problem with the 8 speed. Not sure if they have corrected the problem. Coincidentally, I am thinking of trading for a SUV or a crossover. Not sure which way I will go but will not need it for towing but I will be checking to see what kind of problems they are having. Interestingly, when I had the problem with the torque converter I looked online and it is mentioned often.
