While I have fished all around that area (Dagger, South Bay, East Shore, Brown & Root etc), I have never fished the area behind Steadman Island in the flats. How deep is it? Is it pretty safe to fish in the wind? What kind of structure/grass is on it? Thanks for your advice. Tight lines.

It's a good area, you can wade it if you want, and it has deeper grass beds around the shallow area that you can drift or anchor up an fish shallow points of reef.

I wade fished it when Outdoor Writer David Sikes was doing an article on me for the Corpus Christi Caller Times a few years ago and we found reds there after we caught our trout, if that tells you anything. wink

Trout and reds can both be found there.

The reef helps knock down S wind for some pretty decent drifts. Water depth varies but ranges 2-6 ft. Lots of dinks but a spattering of keepers can be found. Great blow ups early around the reef on tops. Trout on cork with drifts. Not much danger in the area that I'm aware of, but the water can get really shallow toward 361 and on humps located in the flats. Drifts can pretty much be set up regardless of wind direction. Reef can get crowded at times, but drifts are usually still doable with plenty of room between boats. If it gets busy, just leave and come back later. Sometimes, there's nobody in the area. Sometimes there's no fish in the area too. smile

I've done really good on the trout out there in the past.
I'll be out there this weekend, too I think

Thanks lite-liner. I'm really looking forward to drifting it in my yak. It looks ideal for drifting in a SE wind starting at the reef.

Yeah Lindsey, you should be able to find your trout on the south grass edge and potholes right now (if the winds allow), and then catch reds north of that in the flats.

Reds will hang out on the shallow parts of the reef - all sides.

I like to wade it.
