I’m fairly new to fishing and am still mastering knot tying. I also cannot afford several rods and reels at this time.

Are these something that would allow me to spend more time trying to learn how to catch fish and less tying on different bait.

I saw a review on bassmaster from Aaron Martens I believe but I don’t know if it’s actually something he uses or is selling.

Thank you

Where are you located, what lakes nearby? Depending on your location, one of us could show you the basics of knot tying that'd take about 20 minutes, you could practice for a few days, and have it down . . . just like that.

These no-knot snaps look interesting, as do the little knot tying mechanical devices I see YouTube ads for. There use to be knot-less hooks, too. I view them all as interesting ideas thought up by smart folks . . . but usually not worth using.

Yes, as long as you're fishing moving baits. I wouldn't try it on a T-rig or Jig.

I use them on all of my hard moving baits with the exception of spinner baits, have been known to use them on a chatter bait also!

They work well, and do not seem to affect my catch ratio.

Hope this helps!

For hard baits I've used the Norman Speed Clips with no issues. If your fishing grass they do tend to grab a bit more than if just using a straight knot.

As long as you use a good one like the Owner or Berkley Crosslocks you will be fine. Part of becoming a good angler is learning to tie a good knot quickly. Practice the Palomar know until you can tie it in less than 30 seconds. It is pretty much the only knot you need to tie lure on and it is one of the strongest knots.

I agree with Ken. Except I dont agree in using clips ...period. Learn to tie a good knot. It's an important part of fishing. Lures are designed to be tied to, directly. No additional parts required. A Palomar is a really fast, and deceptively easy knot to tie. Deceptive, since it is so important knot to twist or cross the line in portions of the knot where it should be clean. I also agree, a Palomar is pretty much all you will need.

I tried using the speed clips on one or two outings, I just didn't see any advantages.

Certain baits will present better with a knot.... and some are better with a clip.
There are some super quick knots that can be used if youre like me and mess up pali tying ever once in awhile... uni knots and surg knots are my fall back but i usually up my leader test lb since theyre weaker than a pali... dont wanna break off and have the fish die... smirk
