Lost as in like it's locked up or grinding or like you hit something and busted part of your gear case off?

If it's still turning but messed up maybe somebody can rebuild it, for under a grand.

If you broke part of it off i would recommend a new aftermarket unit from Sei. Three year no fault warranty, under 1000 if you install it yourself. Andrew at Nautical Mile Marine in Flint, Tx can get you taken care of. 903-561-5930

You can purchase an aftermarket for a lot less money. Doesn`t take very many parts in that 3L lower to get over 1500. Being locked up can be the top bearing and wipe out the case. Anglers on this form has the lowers.

Your best bet and the fastest way is order a remaned unit, don't have one in stock at the moment, but the shafts are the salvage parts, drive and prop shafts, most of the other parts are scrap if it locks up from bearing failure, is what happens is when a bearing is lost the race turns is the case and damages the press fit for the race and all becomes scrap at that point, but you don't know tell you break it down

Stay away from the SEI units...big gamble on getting a good one. Some have had good luck, others have had 3 or 4 units.

I suggest either a new Merc unit or a reman from Merc.

You can buy 3 or 4 SEI's for the price of one Mercury. I used one years ago for an Alpha 1 stern drive. Ran it for a few seasons without issue.
