I know its the season and guys get excited about it.

Might be in the minority but I HATE bed fishing. The fish grab at tails, swipe at stuff or simply ignore it. They also spook off more often than not and gills go to work on their nests...Seen it happen plenty. I find it to be a waste of time when there are likely pre-spawn fish that are much easier to catch.

What say my bassin brothers?

Im with you on bed fishing wasting time and reducing catch rates. However if I see one I think is a 7+ I will give it a try.

I'm not a fan. I won't stand over a fish that I can see and try and make her bite.
I'll fish shallow with a top water or a worm, and if a fish hits it ok, but
I won't wait til I see one and then drive it crazy trying to get her off the bed...

Well I love it so much I schedule my vacation time around the spawn. Bed fish seem to taste better for some reason.

I find fishing a learning experience every time that I go out. When fish are on beds, I use this opportunity to learn and figure out how to catch a bedding bass as quickly as possible. I feel like now I can make one cast and I can estimate just how long it'll take to catch that fish, if at all. I love it all though when it comes to bass fishing.

I have noticed that if they nose down on it right away, that fish is a player, gill flaring is good too.

But man usually, they dont do that at all, they bolt or ignore the bait or grab the very tip of the tail and move it.

I seldom will even try anymore, just look them and move on.

You can waste a lot of day trying to get a bed fish to bite. If she is big enough maybe but still not going to spend all day trying.

Insanity lol

Drives me nuts man. Watched a friend when we were bank fishing mess with a bedded fish for 4 hours, for a 3lb fish. He flipped that silly pink worm at it 1,000 times till it finally picked it up good enough he could set the hook. 4 hours for ONE fish!

Meanwhile I had caught 10 fish on spinner baits.

Madness.

I grew up on Fork. In 80s and early 90s I would walk the bank and bed fish. Got pretty good. Then one day I realized it just wasnt as fun. Almost like cheating to me. Ive caught just a few since then and thats only during a tournament. Most the lakes I fish now are rocky and you just dont see them like at Fork on beds. Fork spoiled me at an early age I guess.

I like bed fishing! I don't waste a whole lot of time doing it for smaller fish, but I don't mind spending 30-45 minutes on a good bed fish. sometimes I spend longer, sometimes I don't spend 10 minutes. It just depends on how I feel. The hardest part is knowing when to leave the fish and I've gotten pretty good at that.

My favorite way to fish. But I don't waste time on small fish. For me it's like hunting. Finding her, figuring out the sweet spot and getting her to eat while watching it all is just a thrill to me. I'm more of a big fish than numbers guy, anyway. Other than that, I prefer deep water structure fishing.

I still say that 7-8lber you popped on a bed behind that laydown when I fished with you and Pack that day was one of the most epic fish catches I have seen. So much could have and should have went wrong in getting her to the boat but it didn't. That was straight hand to hand combat that day and the fish lost... woot

My favorite time of year for sure. Can be very frustrating in tournaments though. Really enjoyed sight fishing Amistad back in its hayday.
