Last year I tried a Predator PDL at a demo day. Since then, I have been trying to figure out how to purchase one and I am getting really close. I have watched dozens of videos on this yak, and have read many articles about it. What I have not seen is how difficult it is to paddle it.
I live in West Texas and the pedal option should help immensely in windy conditions, but I also hope to do some river trips.

Can anyone share their experience paddling the Predator PDL, especially in rivers of varying depths?

Thanks!

Generally speaking wide kayaks are tough to paddle any real distance. It can be done but since kayaks are very task specific they will do some things great and others not so great. I understand it to be the best prop driven system out.

The Predator PDL is the same hull as the regular Predator, except for the hole where the drive sits. They sell a cartridge to put in it's place if you expect to hit rivers, and not bring the drive. Alot of my fishing was done in the rivers around the DFW area last year in my Predator PDL. I hope this helps.

I have had a predator pdl for a few months now. I have not paddled in it a ton but the times I have, i have not had too much difficulty. However, i don't have much experience with other paddle kayaks so don't really have much to compare it to. My biggest piece of advice is get the longest paddle you can stand. With the high seating position you really need it, especially if you are taller. I haven't had it on any rivers yet either so I am not much of a help there. I can't see it being too bad on long hauls since it is the same hull as the regular predator is like The Black Hammer said.
