There�s a lot of sawgrass on the far north end of my home lake where the main feeder creeks wind in. Do you guys find crappie spawning in it? I duck hunt literally all duck season in the stuff so I know it�s about 3-4ft deep and flat where it�s not creek channel. I would think it would be pretty good, but never really set out and made myself fish it.

Like I said you basically get in the creek channel and it�s thick on both sides of you. There are places you can get through to the back side of it (shallower part) that�s not the actual channel to fish. Would you guys try fishing the grass on the edges of the creek channel (channel is 8-9ft deep) or would you get back in the shallower areas?

I would try both and see what was more productive. They might spawn on both sides of the grass, but I would assume they would be on the shallow side. I have caught fish out of a local private lake right on the edge of the sawgrass on the bank. They are in there thick right now.

With the color of Naconiche, I would be fishing in 2 feet or less.

I�m talking about Nacogdoches. They actually have parts of Naconiche roped off right now because of giant salvania.

I would fish it in a heart beat. There was a certain creek at LOP that had a patch of sawgrass right in the middle of the creek. We caught 2-3 limits for 4 days straight off that same patch of saw grass.

I�m with pintail...you find that stuff...jackpot.

Crappie love grass during the spring! I would definitely try it!

Well, I don�t know what I�m doing wrong. Water was 65�. Fished lots of this grass. Nada. Fished some buck brush in the very back of a big cove. Nada. Fished brushpile from 10ft deep to 26ft deep. ZERO! The first time I�ve been skunked in a loooong time.

Damnit boy.... Did you try dropping the jig directly in the middle of the grass patches? Man that looks like it should be on fire? Did you pitch a slip cork and shiner around any?

Tried dipping in it and jig and bobber on edges.

Jacob, back in the day, well several years ago anyway, Wally Marshal did an entire show on wading that kind of stuff, �dippin� a Crappie Thunder and haulin good fish right out of it. That shoreline in the picture should be good!

I think we all know that just because an area looks good, or meets the criteria for a good spawning location, doesn�t mean it�s gonna hold fish. Last spring at Lavon I fished 500 yards of bank line up at the dam, all of it looked exactly the same and had the same characteristics, but only a single small little rocky point held fish. The spot was literally about the size of my boat, and I bet I pulled 20 crappie out with a jig and bobber, i didn�t pull another fish out on the other 493 yards of bank line... No disrespect, but what Wally Marshal did is called �marketing�. Those fish had already been located and they said, � hey what a great time to film a spawing show!�. What were they catching them on, Crappie Thunders you say....

If I was fishing this stuff, the �edges� is not where I would fish...I would be � in the middle� of this stuff...yes, in the thick of it...that is the exact reason I sold my procraft 15 years ago...it wouldn�t get me �in there� to fish. Frankly, the suggestion you wade would be a good one, or go borrow a good flat bottom with a great troller and get to working in that stuff. The fish are there, you just got to get to them.

After looking at your picture again (nice pic, BTW)...I would be fishing as close to that tree line in the middle of that pic as I could get (the middle looks like a creek)....I would probably slip on waders and wade the shoreline...just start in the creek and work my way out...

This time of year, fish mostly disappear from deeper water into the backs of the creeks to spawn, and we all know this migration. Most people start looking in their deep water haunts and work shallow...and get frustrated when they don�t find fish, even when they are fishing in 3-6 feet of water...the last two weeks, I have been catching crappie in holes in the banks of creeks...if you are fishing more than a foot off the bank then you are out of the strike zone...when this happens, I get out of the boat and walk the bank (my wife says I need the exercise). I also, throw my waders in the boat, cause you never know, when the boat just won�t get to the fish...Also, this time of the year, I always start on the bank, in the shallowest parts of the creek, (18 inches of water and deeper) and work my way out to the center of the creek and into the lake when I am looking for crappie...they maybe 10 feet deep, but it will likely be in the creek and not on the lake...so I would suggest you get to the creek side of the sawgrass and not the channel edge side...hope this helps...

Fished Lake Mcqueeney this past weekend, found fish in the pads 3 feet deep on the outer edge, don't pass up those pads to get to the grass. Nothing found In the shallow grass there either.
