Any one have any data on how many years it takes for a naturally spawned bass, with access to a great forage base, to grow to be a DD size? Talking in general terms here.

What say you.

Blindshot,

Fishing is not an escape from life, but often a deeper immersion into it.

That's a question that has way too many variables.
But, there is a guy down in S.Tx that has grown some giant bass very quickly in his lakes by having good genetics and great forage.

Camolot Bell and La Perla? 3-5 years?. Naturally in public waters? probably more like 8-10 years?

It's been documented in as little as 4 years in Florida. 3 years may be possible in truly perfect conditions. More generally it's 5+ years on private water and 7-10 years on public water.

My parents built a 26 acre lake 2.5 years ago in east Texas. They put 2000 Native F1 strain (not Florida strain) bass in it and more bait than the bass can eat. In the last 2 months we have seen multiple fish up to 5.5 lbs. They are gaining about 2.2 lbs per year. I'm not sure how long it takes a bass to peek in growth, but with an unlimited food source and good pond management, maybe 5 to 6 years we might get our first DD. Since these fish aren't Florida strain bass I don't believe we will be seeing very many fish over 10 lbs.

I'd think 7-8 years is common on some lakes. Some Sharelunkers are 9-10 so to get 10lbs it can happen in 7-8

Justin, an F1 is a first generation cross between a Florida and a Northern (native) bass.

A lake I fished in college was dry in 2007 and re stocked with fingerlings in 2008-2009 when it filled back up. In the spring of 2013 when I was fishing it, me and a couple of buddies would fish it and caught two 10 lbers. That blew my mind

It all depends on the fishes environment

Every lake is different, of course.

One good metric is to look at new lakes, see how long it takes for them to grow in what is generally considered a very good environment. As lakes get older, they seem to lose a bit of this.

Naconiche was first stocked with LMBs in 2009, mainly fingerlings . . . but some adults, too.

In 2016, a 14.12 pounder was caught for the current lake record.

I wish I knew what size the adults were seeded into the lake. My guess is not huge fish but fish large enough to begin spawning within a season.

Brad

Stocking history for Naconiche. All it says is "adults" which means they were already of spawning age.

Gary Schwarz had fish in Jalisco top 7lbs in three years. That was with sharelunker genetics and a lake full of forage. I think there are three primary variables at play. Genetics, forage, and water temperature. Ideally you'd have water that didn't drop below 70 or get above 80. (approximately). Several folks have got 1 and 2 right in Texas, but the temperature variable is the difficult one to control in the state.

The wolfpack lake has 1st year 5 and 6lbers coming out of it. 3 years they will habe double digits and maybe a few that make it in 2 years.

Would that lake happen to be lake sweetwater? They stocked 39,000 sharelunker fingerlings in 2008 after it refilled from being very low.
