Fished the creek last year at this time. Wondering if you can get up there this year or is the lake too low?

I am not positive but I would think you could. The channel used to be fairly deep.

find some green water. not finding anything in clear water. did find a nice pod in 15 feet today with the help of a buzzard. he dive bombed me when I was going over the spot. I think he had been sitting in the tree watching them all day. lightning struck in the background and I tossed the bologna sammich I was eating and marked a waypoint.

I live fairly close to Lake Belton and am going to go out tomorrow afternoon. I will be putting in at Hwy 36 bridge. never really fished for crappie before but after reading all these posts, I think I want to give it a shot. Was thinking of picking up a couple dozen minnows at the Triangle. What structure should I be looking for? What depth? Any pointes would be appreciated. Also, any update of the white bass run up the Leon?

you can go fish some minnows under slip cork rigs near the old bridge abatement on the north end of the bridge, BE CAREFUL the water is getting lower, and that abatement sticks out abt 50 yards on each side. lots of fish spawn along that old cement abatement, its basically a road. also fish in white flint park cove, leona park cove. set your float around 4 to 8 feet. get some small minnows if you can. if that doesnt work, fing your way into the back of matheglin creek area, and fish trees in around 10 to 12 feet of water..
also you can go into owl creek, and fish the stick ups and ledges.
heres a tip that many miss, with EVERYBODY and thier brother fishing visible structure, most dont fish banklines that SEEM to be void of structure like trees, stumps. rocks ect. I usually do good fishing what others miss, because they think nothing is down there. remember, crappie can spawn on rocks, laydown logs, twigs along a flat. it dont take much . the visible stuff will be fished unto oblivion, but the hidden stuff will be untouched. sometimes that underwater rock that nobody can see might hold 10 crappie or more.

The area around the old road bed is close to the park on the west end of the bridge, not more than 100-200 yds from the boat ramp. The Owl Creek area he mentioned is not far from the Owl Creek boat ramp.

Thanks for the info. I recently started taking my daughter along and man, I need to put her on some fish before she loses interest. I thought white bass would do the trick. But, I keep reading about all these crappie being caught so I need to give it a shot. I went a few years back looking for white bass. Friend pointed out some gravel pits to fish, he did have me troll back and forth over the old roadbed. Another friend mentioned a log jam further up the river. Need to learn Belton. I live so close, but always go to Waco. Thanks for the info. One last thing, where do they sell minnows? Triangle gas station maybe?

Theres one on the opposite side too, if the water keeps dropping they will be dangerous, go slow north of the bridge, also on the south side of the bridge all the old concrete pilings they dumped from the old bridge. abt 50 yards out from the bridge.

Minnows at the Triangle or further west at the small station on the north before you get to the long bridge is actually my preference.

Hey, leanin Post...is this a creek you can walk the bank on? I need to go see my dad in Temple and would take some time to fish it, if I could walk it...not sure I want to drag my boat down there just yet...

If you are speaking of Stampede Creek, you could walk it if you could get to it but to do that you would have to go through private property. Don't know any of property owners.

When are you going to be in the Temple area?.

yes they usually havegood minnows but have shorted me a few times, I will go there as a last resort.
the triangle has good coffee to, mr cefco makes sure of that, and clean restrooms.
