Was fishing Murvaul Friday and caught this bowfin. Had never seen this coloration before.

I caught one at Fork a couple years ago in march and it had blueish fins and blue belly. This is the only one I have ever seen so I thought they were all that way.

They look sharp but I've never stuck a finger in there to verify. Had one escape as it bit a hole through rubber fish net once, had one bite a spinner bait in two, had one 30 years ago that stunk so bad I swore I'd never boat one again. Haven't ever smelled one like the first one as I'm always sniffing them when I catch them now. roflmao

That is cool looking. I have seen some with the iridescent blues but nothing like that. Must be Irish getting ready for St Patricks Day.

I was wondering with all the dead vegetation in the lake from spraying for salvinia last year if that caused it. It was definitely in the area where the problem was worst.

I have seen a few caught, around spring time, I assume spawning time they tend to get the fluorescent green on their fins, or it is much more pronounced during the early spring and spawn.

Caught this one on Monticello a few years ago, it's their spawning colors.

They absolutely have very sharp teeth. Keep your fingers away from that mouth and use pliers to remove the hook. A net is also your best bet in landing them. They sometimes like to kick all over the boat and will find any open tackle boxes like radar.

All I've caught were the 'usual' brownish green. They're certainly tackle-busters, though.
