I've only dabbled in guiding but just as a normal fisherman that is one of the things that I struggle with the most. It's so easy to go back to the same spots knowing that you will catch fish but there is something about going to a new place and hunting them down. Once you find them after hunting them down it is such a great feeling. Every year I make myself explore new areas and new creeks and have thus given myself several options depending on the conditions. Some creeks clear faster, some creeks hold fish no matter what and some only hold them when certain conditions are present. I enjoy learning to read water and hunt fish down. The creeks have taken me 10 years of trial and error and I continue to add to that arsenal each year.

Good posts, thanks for the encouragement. I met another guide last Saturday, he was by himself and told me he was keeping up with crappie (his trip for the day got cancelled due to rain) and he was checking new water. I don’t know if I could be a guide, but I would like to try sometime.

Lane, would you consider posting a picture of how you build your brush piles? Being a guide, you've learned what seems to work for you and for us just beginning to build brush piles, it'd be great to see what to build. But if this is something that you'd rather not do, I completely understand. I wouldn't want you to do anything that take away from your business as a guide.

Sorry I haven't responded much, been down in Goldthwaite running doe hunts all weekend! Now it's full time fishing until September.

Lollygagger, I will do my best to get some good pictures in the next couple of weeks of the brush piles we are building. I've already sank all the others that I've built, but we have plenty more material to put out before spring gets here.

As far as the Goo (freshwater drum) fishing trips go, I'm going to charge top dollar for these trophies haha
