Has anyone had any luck at the jetty’s lately? Taking the boat down the day after Christmas for a week. Hope to find some reds, sheepshead, etc at the jetty’s. Will also fish the reefs of east Galveston Bay for trout. Thanks for any info.

I went out on Wednesday last week on the inside of the bay along the long jetty (not familiar with the area so i dont know what its called) but we fished achored about 20 yards from the rocks about midway up the jetty. We hammered big sheepshead all day long with live shrimp. trick was to cast literally inches from the rocks. within seconds, you'd have a sheepshead on. the have a very light bite. Caught black drum and a small red doing the same. We had a larger tackle cast out away from the rocks at the same time with cut bait and caught a 30lb bull red, missed another bull red.

just got back from Galveston fishing the jetty. I am not a saltwater fisherman but was watching other to try to figure it out. Saw 2 nice big reds Thursday and 3 big ones caught Friday. The ones Thursday used mullet and the 3 Friday were busy sorting out fishing license issue it game warden. Wish i could help more. Let me know how you do please. Got a daughter living there now and like to learn how to catch them when i get the chance.

Are sheeps head at the jetties all year long? Plan on going to Galveston this summer and would like to get the wives and kids on some fast action and hard fighters.

While your there, try catching some BIG Black Drum. Very easy to catch and will give the kids a chance to catch a Huge fish. Guaranteed. If your not familiar with how to set up a rod..let me know. ed BTW Sheepshead are around all year may be some nice ones out there now.

I assume a Carolina rig would work wouldn't it? I won't be going until this summer. I will probably use my trolling motor mainly, but if I decide to anchor what is the best way to anchor? Just anchor off the bow like normal? Or use 2 anchors, bow and stern to keep from swinging when a ship come by?

Waves and traffic can create problems if your near the rocks. The NORTH side of the North jetties would be relatively calm if the winds not blowing. The Channel side is a hit and miss ordeal and can get rough. I always was leary about anchoring out there bc anchors are lost in the rocks. A "Mighty Mite" anchor is a grappling design anchor made for jetty fishing jetty. Google it and read up on it. I'd bring an extra anchor but then again if you had to cut your rope !! It takes a good 100 ft of rope. I think they say the rope (plus anchor chain) has to be 4 times the depth of the water. I like to fish the "Wash Out" on the North jetties. My favorite anchor is the BOYLES anchor..9# plus 4 ft. of anchor chain. Never know what one will catch out there so bring some terminal tackle!!
