Lews is the best reel brand there is available (my opinion of coarse.) I think most everyone leans for Shimano, but 95% of the folks on here are freshwater fisherman strictly.. I fish salt as well and live about 15 mins from the coast. Yes, Shimano is a deal on the coast too, but nowadays everybody down here is using Lews. I have a Team Lews Lite and that thing is completely bulletproof. Matter in fact, a friend of mine had one of them cheaper Lews (American Hero.) One of my Curado 70's gave out before his $50 Lews did!
Take this kind of a advice from folks that fish the saltwater as well.. The environment down here is a lot more harsh on reels than on the lakes. That's where the true test comes in, and Lews passes them all down here.

What can we say.... Congrats LEWS! You've got one perfect customer! It takes some quality to make one happy like dk2429. Seriously, next time will pay attention to Lews, too!

Lews products are high quality and tough as nails, I have some metanium mgls and aldebarans and still the toughest reels I own are a lews super duty and lews bb1. Dont get me wrong, I love my Shimanos but thats my honest truth. U cant go wrong with any lews product. Best quality for the price.

I bought a LEWS American Hero combo and paid $79 for it. I think it is a bargain for what you get. The reel has a 7:1 gear ratio, rod is 6-10 MH fast taper, stainless guides, really feels balanced and fishes well. There were other rod lengths and actions available.

I only have one Lews. The rest are 13 fishing and Shimano. They fit my hand the best. I'm just saying, if you want reliability, Lews. Shimano isn't what it used to be bud. Little freshwater bass fishing doesn't prove how tough your Shimano is. Constantly getting sprayed with saltwater and horsing in redfish is what proves a reels capability.. the saltwater crowd is going Lews nowadays. Just saying

Why everyone is thinking of Shimano as an only alternative to <any brand?!> I'm not really tied to Shimano at all! My line of saltwater spinning reels includes Daiwa Emblem Pro 5500 - Okuma Cedros 55(it's twin drags one) - Shimano Baitrunner 4500 - Quantum Cabo (50 and 40) - Penn ss4500; casting are all round Daiwa CVZ-300 and Luna 253(both JPM), boat classics: single speed Penn Senator 4/0 and Shimano 2-speed TLD 20. My problem now is ... they are all in absolutely great shape and I love them all! Just enjoy taking care of them, both after every trip, and periodic service, too. Result: kind of no room for other reels/brands, even for a single one. So if I will ever need another reel, will NEED to look @Lews because you guys are all agree on it's great quality. That's all.

Yes sir, now I'm not saying Shimano is BAD, but really these days it seems everyone (at least the folks down here on the coast) are going Lews. The Team Lews Lite is ESPECIALLY a popular one down here on the saltwater. Lot's of guides down here use them day in/day out and have nothing but good to say. The new Shimanos just aren't there. The best Shimano put out was the E series in my opinion.

I dont own any Lews but I see they have a new one out. The Inshore custom. Looks to be great reel. At 200 bucks it should be. Has anyone tried this one yet?
