I haven’t gotten to 100 posts yet so I have to post this here.

I’m looking for a jon boat trailer for a 12’-14’ boat. This is my last shot before breaking down and buying the $500 one from academy. I’m looking for a used one but every used one on Craigslist cost more than the brand new one at academy...it’s actually pretty crazy what people want for a rusted out piece of junk. Lol. Let me know or send someone my way if you can think of anything.

Crappie spawn is right around the corner and I’m tired of getting my boat in and out of the back of my truck every time I wanna go fishing.

Thanks guys!

Buy the one from academy. I have a 2016 15ft Jon with a 20hp. The guy I bought it from got the trailer from Harbor Freight and modified it for a boat. Because of the weight distribution, the tongue started bending. I took it to a trailer repair and had them replace the tongue with heavier square tubing. All that to say, I watched craigslist for months waiting for a decent cheap trailer, but never saw one. Like you said, the used ones were more than the one from academy.

Go ahead and get the one from academy, and start getting ready for the spring fishin’.

Too bad you don't live close by because I have one I would give you if you would haul the old boat off on it.

Would make a very nice trailer for a 14' - 16' flat bottom and has fairly good tires if I remember.

For what it's worth: if you buy the trailer from Academy step up and pay the extra $100 for the next one up the line. They are both good trailers (McClains) but the $500 one has 8" wheels, while the $600 one has 12" wheels. By the time you buy three 12" wheels & tires (gotta have a spare) you are out more than if you'd bought the $600 trailer and a spare.

Caveat: this is based on the prices/specs when I bought mine; they may have changed some in the interim. But I haul my skiff and kayaks long distances (150 - 1500 miles each way) at 65 & 70 mph, and don't want to do that on 8" wheels. If you only fish around the corner, disregard this post.
