I am wanting to sell my Helix 9 DI/GPS, move my Helix 10 SI/GPS up to the bow of the boat and install a Helix 12. Will all the hardware fit the 12 that is on the Helix 10? Obviously the mounting bracket will be bigger...

Also if I am planning on buying a Helix 12, which one do I want, what are the differences?

If you can afford the 12 MEGA, get the MEGA. It is top of the line.

Are you getting the Mega? If so I think that transducer will be different than what you have mounted at the moment. If you do not go with the Mega unit then the nice thing about Helix units are that you only need one SI unit. The other can just be a 2D but you can still get a DI and SI screen when they are networked together. If you get the Mega then get the SI unit.

With the Mega, I believe the transducer is different. The rest of the cables will be the same. If non mega then yes use the old hardware at the console and mount new on bow.

Bobby is correct the MEGA transducer is different, but the results from it are outstanding!

The Helix MEGA SI units are current models. The first generation are now legacy models (discontinued). The MEGA SI transducer has a dedicated Down Imaging crystal in the transducer.
The discontinued SI units don't have Down Imaging, they have Down Imaging views created by blending the two SI pulses.

The MEGA SI transducer is 1" longer than the HDSI transducer the first generation SI units have and also has a very different mount. The MEGA SI transducer's mount has the same hole pattern as the HDSI so no new holes are needed to switch them.

The discontinued SI units have two Imaging frequencies (455 kHz and 800 kHz). The MEGA SI units have three Imaging frequencies (455 kHz, 800 kHz, and 1200 kHz)

Helix 12 CHIRP MEGA SI+ GPS G3N and G4N, 1198c SI, SOLIX 10 SI G3,
Helix 8 MEGA SI+ GPS G4N, SOLIX 12 SI and G3, MEGA 360, MEGA LIVE TL, RC-1

The hdsi 180 transducer uses blended si to get the di, the first core si transducer that used the all in one transducer (si/di/2d) is the mega transducer

Neither the Compact SI or HDSI transducers have a dedicated Down Imaging crystal.

Only the MEGA SI transducers and ONIX/ION SI transducers have a dedicated Down Imaging crystal.

Is the DI at least sharper using the HDSI over Compact?

I never really noticed it being sharper between the 2. I put a DI Helix 10 on the bow and now I have sharp pictures.
