Whenever I’m Fishing way off shore (20-30 ft), i will usually idle over a school of fish, throw a marker buoy out to the side, and then cast to the side of It right where i marked the fish. Is this the best way to do It? Or are there other more accurate ways to pull It off?

That is an excellent way to do it. I like the old school method if you do not have spot lock or anchor on your TM. Spot Lock or Anchor really helps a lot for staying close to the fish over deep water. Here are some other things to consider while looking at those fish.
- Why are they there.
- Is this their comfort zone and do they live there.
- Zoom in on the contour lines to determine these two things.
- If the fish are sitting off a point/side of point then those contour lines can tell you where the irregular feature is.
- It may be just off to the side of the point as a heavy rock cropping or small ledge.
- You may find that the point has a rise on the end forming an underwater hump.
- Your fish will relate to these features and casting in the right spot will get you bit.
- The fish you are seeing may not be the ones to fish for. Fish for the ones right next to them that are connected to and relating to the irregular feature close to where the others are suspended.

When looking for groups of fish; I always use a split screen with down scan and side scan to help determine these things with only one pass over the fish. That second depth finder really comes into play with the map pulled up to help you stay on the closest contour line to the fish. It is a big mistake to idle over them more than once. Gather all the info. you can on one pass then get to fishing.

Each person you work with holds some promise to your future success.
