Fished ½ day Thursday and all of Friday of last week at Lake Fork out of my Kayak in Glade creek. Threw swimbaits, crankbaits, Alabama rigs, and a few soft plastics. I lost one on a swimbait but other than that the only bites I got were on ½ oz. redeye shad in orange crawl and ¼ oz. Cotton Cordell spot in copper crawl with the hooks switched out to red. I did not get a bite all day Thursday. Friday morning early I found a dock with a good bit of grass on it. You could not see the grass you would just pick it up on your crankbait. I caught a channel cat then had several bites on the Redeye shad. They were smacking it but could not get a hook up. Somewhere during this time I lost my scale (becomes important later). I was fishing out of my kayak so I decided to paddle out near the mouth of Glade since the wind was from the south and allow it to blow me back in the creek. I ended up in a little cut that had a lot of grass in it and was talking to these 2 older gentleman in a boat when I hooked up on my first fish. It felt like a huge chunk of grass on my line until it came up and spit my bait out. It was a very nice fish. So the good ole boys in the boat fishing the other side of the cove literally cut across right in front of me. There was part of me that wanted to say something but I decided I would go further back and wait for them to move. About 10 minutes later I hooked up with the giant. Really did not feel like a big fish at first but when I reached for my net she nearly ripped the rod out of my hand. When I finally landed her My Kayak had blown into some bushes and my rods were all tangled up and had no way to weigh her. I have seen enough big fish to know she was over eight but I think she was bigger. Holding her up to take that picture was not easy and finally decided instead of trying to rig up a way to keep her and find a way to weigh her it was more important to get her back in the water. In all I caught 5 bass in that cove and every one of them was in 1-2 feet of water. The big one was on the redeye shad the other 4 on the Cotton Cordell. The big girl was in the very back of the cut in maybe a foot of water. I was told by the boaters that the water was 47-49 degrees. What this tells me is I can over think things, February with water temps. In the upper 40’s I have been taught fish should be staging on points but here they were in shallow water at or near the back of a secondary cove. I most likely would not have gone back there had the boat not cut me off so I guess I should thank them, lol. If I wasn’t in the kayak I would have fished that area much more and probably come back to it later. I caught 5 fish and lost 3 more in a matter of 45 minutes and the whole time it was misting or lightly raining. So I would say if you go out there don’t over think things those fish may be very shallow even when the water is still cold. Hope this helps someone else catch a big one! [img]

Very nice report and nice fish! Looks between 8 and 10 to me, but it's always hard to tell with pictures. Definitely a hog.

Beautiful. Find the grass and the water temp is secondary.
