Buying a heritage tracker boat which includes a cover AND a $400 giftcard. I want to fish crappie/Bass & need suggestion's for setup of depth finders. It has a lowrance hook 3 on the console and nothing up front. I am technology challenged. Not sure what to get with the $400.

Any suggestion on a good easy to use depth finder? I'm either going to put a hook2x4 ($119 basspro) on the front & leave the hook 3 at the console and spend the rest on a dual bank charger etc.
OR get a $400 easy to use depth finder for the console/electric motor and use the hook 3 also.

I use a finder to check depth and drop offs. I have never used SI OR DI and am technology challenged.
Asked in the crappie section because I believe you guys are nice enough to help. Thanks in advance.

Hook 2 are new. If you want maps younwill give up side scan. Or for another $100 you can get the combo package. They have good reviews

Do I need maps? 90% of the time I'm fishing grapevine and occasionally Lewisville (might fish east Texas someday)

Bass Pro is putting the Garmin 93sv on sale for 500 dollars February 16th. Look on their site for the Classic Sale or something like that. I'm thinking about picking one up and I've never used a Garmin in my life. But, lots of folks like them and that seems like a really good deal on a depth finder that's supposed to be simple to use out of the box.

I like maps, especially when I am running at night and can retrace my path back to the ramp...don’t know how the lowrance graphs work though...but I love the maps portion on my birds...side scan is always helpful, as well

Might look at having them move the 3 to the bow, and add a Hook 7, looks like they are about $300.

noidea

Jim sr that's what I was thinking. Put the 3 up front. Then whatever else at the console. I won't get the gift card until I take delivery of the boat so I will probably install the electronics. Delivery will be 6-8 weeks, march 1-15. I hope. If not I will probably use my water wagon/waders for early season pond fishing. Should I go ahead and get maps too for a little more?(I think $200 more way past budget)

I'd wait til I get everything installed, the look on here for some used map chips,..they're usually very reasonable.

Fishing those lakes, I would just get a side imaging unit for a couple hundred more. I got the same boat and put a SI unit on it and will be upgrading to an XI5. SI is not hard to learn. Just take someone out that can show you how to use it and what to look for.

The built in maps on the units are fine. You don't need to spend more money on maps.
The hook 3 belongs on front. Put the bigger unit on the dash. Later when you upgrade ( everyone does eventually) you can use the dash unit up front.
