For me having most always fished a shallow muddy lake I've always preferred a T-rigged lizard. Being new to the deeper clearer lakes around here I struggled last year with this technique. I have little confidence in C-rigs. Square bills and T-rigged swim baits faired pretty well. What's ya'll go too?

C-rig right next to the river channel in 15 to 20 ft. Staying on contour and dragging from the inside of the slopes toward the channel. I will wait for the lake to get calm then move out to the staging areas. You can catch them coming in and going out on these slopes. It has been my experience that when the wind dies off the bit in the shallow falls off. This has happened many times on Falcon and Amistad. When the bite slows down shallow I go deep. Like any other spots it takes a lot of mapping work to locate and have these deep water spots to go to. I always try to have 3 spots for staging fish. They will be feeding up on one of them.

Each person you work with holds some promise to your future success.

Pre-spawn I like a football jig, spawn I like a vibrating jig.

I'm curious why you wouldn't stick with what you know and are comfortable and just adapt to the lake? If you like T-rig lizards, then do that but go to lighter line and weights until you get bit. We catch a bunch of fish just swimming the stupid things.

Funny thing about that is last year I tried multiple ways of rigging the soft plastics. Everything from weights to shaky head to size/type of baits. I like to flip shallow cover. One afternoon I got frustrated and just decided to make 5 flips with any given bait, if I got no bite change. Finally got to the t-rig keitech swimbait and BAM!! Caught 3, 3-4 pounders in a 50 yard stretch. That was my last swimbait right before I lost a cylinder on my OB...

Pre spawn - really depending on weather and what the weather has been doing prior to trip. I try to go during a warming trend and I go to the warmest water I can find which is usually shallow spawning flats and I'm talking dirt shallow to 3'. In this sitiution, I'm usually throwing a Hags Tornado on a 1/8 shakey, shallow suspending jerkbait, senko or creature bait. Love a t-rigged baby brush hog!

If weather has been cold and fluctuating, I'm backing off deeper working creeks, creek bends and secondary points. In this case, I'm throwing jigs, chatterbait and traps.

Spawn - I'm up shallow throwing plastics. Flukes and lizards are my favorites.

Brant - It is good to see you posting on here again. It has been a while since we have been fishing together.

8" Lizard. Solid black in off colored water, green pumpkin chart tail in stained.
Light sinker.
