Do y'all tie direct or use a loop knot? I feel having a loop gives better action but I have lost a few swamp donkeys due to them not having a welded eye

Always direct knot and if the eye isn't welded, a pair of pliers to close what little gap is there

Loop knot - but not sure if the action is appreciably different than a direct tie. Haven't seen an eye gap, but would close it with pliers if needed.

In memory of my childhood friend Dan Sterling, who taught me at an early age how to catch bream with a hand-line, and who unknowingly hooked me on fishing for life.

To me in thicker cover where I throw a frog most of the time all a loop knot does is increase hangups, snags etc.

Thanks guys, just killing time in the desert, thinking about past experiences. Coming back stateside in three days and have a tourney at lake eufaula, AL next weekend! What is the lowest water temp youve had luck with frogs?

60's they eat it pretty good in Texas. They will eat in 50's under right conditions. Alabama they will eat it low 50's and I've heard from a reliable source even colder on guntersville
